All of my strikes have been for free music I've acquired from Freemusicarchive.org. I've won all my disputes just by showing that the music was under a Creative Commons licensing agreement. A lot of times the claims are by bogus company's that say they own the rights. YouTube doesn't put much effort into vetting those making the claim, but just add a strike against the channel's owner.

I just use the free YouTube music. It eliminates any worries or extra expenses.

My vid coming out tomorrow has a song in it by Sia, YouTube will just hand any ad revenue to the record label

We'll see. Let us know if YT gives you any warnings etc.
YouTube had already told me this, I upload the day before and schedule the go live so I can ensure there are no issues with the video and it reaches full resolution for the viewers :)

I once had a video completely blacklisted before it even went live, in my case they warned me before the schedule time.

I use fair use / free music from sound cloud also sometimes. I also subscribe to Epidemic Sound, it's not free but it gives me a fairly creative librabry of music to work from for about $15 USD a month. On top of that if you ever cancel your subscription. You music on your youtube video will still be valid. Meaning they don't hold your videos hostage with you paying licensing every month. As long as you can verfiy in the past that you were a member during the time you uploaded your video you are good.

I put a music track to every video I post on YT. Never had any problems yet. Should this be something I worry about? I'm not posting anything for monetary gain, purely to share with mates

The material owners have the right to make a copyright claim to monetize or remove any content which their property is used in, even if it is only for fun like you say.

So if they claim or complain do I just have to remove it or are there greater implications? I’ve seen copyright claims flagged up when I’ve posted a video.

YouTube will tell you if you need to do something, they will also give you options to fix the issue.... although if your whole video is just the song with you riding, then muting the music would make for a dull video potentially.

So there are other options besides muting? I'm interested. So far they have only warned me, that they might use ads on my videos, which I am not against, because I do not do all that monetization stuff anyway.
