Honestly going to GoPro 4 with Sena backpack has worked for me. The only issue I have is the Sena 20s won't provide sound from the GPS or Music while hooked to the backpack so if I want to vlog I have to stop and turn it on and when done have to stop and turn off. Minor inconvenience, can't find the 5/6/7 mic adapter so was really my only choice. I need to work on the wife's mic though as I can hear wind when riding over intercom but never hear any in my vlogs.

So what is the best microphone to get to plug into a sony or gopro camera (mic adapter) - that's essentially a 'plug and play'? I don't want the functions, or the expense, of a Sena communicator etc.

They don't last forever, but are cheap, so I buy a few at a time and swap them out when they break. Generally the more expensive the microphone, the worse it will work in a in helmet setup as they are designed to be lapel or desk mics and are too sensitive to have by our mouths in a helmet. The cheap ones are less sensitive, so don't clip or distort as badly.

That is what I have found anyways.

I have the sena boom mic in my HJC and then in my 2 voss helmets I have purple panda mics setup. Which are great but seems like pretty sensitive for gopro

I am brand new to vlogging and my first attempt went well minus...my audio. I as using a Purple Panda into a Sony PX-312. After messing with settings on the Sony I got what I consider to be really decent audio. I am interested in feedback on my first attempt. I will get it up on the site soon.

FWIW, I have done multiple audio tests (see my channel's "Moto Vlog Gear Setup" playlist for those with half helmets (should work similarly with 3/4 helmets).

A lapel mic can be used, but works best in conjunction with a faired motorcycle, slower speeds, and some clever placement. My latest videos are really quite good in my opinion, especially given my particular setup.

I may try to obtain a SENA 20s mic over the winter and try it out in the same setup to see if it's any better, thanks for the tips!

I know this thread is going on 4 years old, but ahh! Seeing the diagrams, I think my Mic got twisted up at some point and is now pointing in the direction of the wind, causing excessive wind noise to appear on some newer videos I have been working on. Thanks for posting this!
