I don't really lane split but I often go through the cars on red lights to be in the front. Just the day before yesterday I did this and then heard screeching tires as soon as I reached the front. No hit but it reminded me why I try to never be stationary behind a car.

That's called filtering. Statistically riders that filter are six times safer than riders that don't.

What would it take to take the California example and make it legal in 50 states? How did California managed to make it legal?

I do it here and there. Like mentioned before typically at lights to get to the front. Splitting in states where it's illegal can be tricky. Really wish it was legal in all states but for states that it's not (like all but Cali) cars just aren't used to it. So aside from motorcycles being less common on the road as it is add another factor of these cars not used to really having bikes split just adds an added danger in my mind. People suck at seeing us as it is and with cellphone use people drift while driving making it tough for us to split

I generally only do it if there's a large volume of traffic, or if I need to be somewhere quickly. A lot of the time on leisure rides, I'll just stay with the flow of the traffic.

Yes. San Diego. I do it all the time, even at speed. I have certain personal rules I follow though, such as I try not to have greater than a 20mph differential between the slower moving lane and myself and I try to avoid riding between an exit lane and a lane of travel.

Here in London the traffic it's really bad, so I do it every time I got a chance, of course with care but if we don't do it, think if all the bikes will stay in lane like cars, what will happen with the traffic.

Not legal here so I don't. It's a stupid rule but I follow it. Same as suppressors and select fire guns being restricted. It's dumb, but I follow the laws until the people change them. I don't pick and choose but do file petitions and vote for things I'd like legalized.

So happy that here it's legal :) , every morning when I go to work, at least near my house traffic every single morning, but with my bike, I can do some lane splitting and be the first at the traffic light :)

You need to taste the sweet aroma of lane splitting, so move here to London :))

I thought it was referred to as filtering for us Brits.

You'd be a fool not to split in California. It sometimes takes hours to get what would normally take TEN MINUTES.
