Baldbiker, have you looked into Starlink from SpaceX?

For decades I had crappy DSL at my house (8Mbps up, 0.4 Mbps down) because it was literally the only thing available to me except for stupid expensive satellite internet with really low data caps and regular outages.

Then last year I got Starlink satellite internet from SpaceX and I now have blazing fast internet (150Mbps up, 40 Mbps down) with no down time for only $10 more per month than I was paying before. I feel like I finally stepped into the modern age.

Imagine doing an epic roadtrip, then having to mess with cameras, editing and uploading. It's a big enough drag with just 1 cam and audio for the weekend ride, I'd hate to miss out on a good ride/scenery.

Yeah, good thing that most of the time computers can do the uploading part on their own and we can enjoy riding meanwhile. :)
But I have to admit that for some reason it sometimes feels necessary to stare intensely at the uploading progress bar. :D

I think we watch it progress because Murphy's Law says we have to...

Sounds like a real drag until you realize if get good enough at it, it'll pay you hundreds of thousands of dollars to ride year round.

I would love to do something like that but I'm not sure it's available here. I even got a broker of sorts to search out all other available forms of internet for my area and all he could find is this crappy DSL 5/1 service! I will google search it though and see if it's a thing!

Tell whoever your broker is to look into 5G internet. I mentioned to you a week or few ago that Rogers claims to offer 5G internet in Meaford and gave you a link to Fido's web page on it.

You replied something along the lines of not wanting to switch cell phone companies... which made me think you didn't read my previous posts as 5G internet has nothing to do with your cell phone plan.

You should forward my messages to your broker person to take a peak at, or just take a look at the link I provided yourself. Should be useless. Worth a look at least.

In one of the Honduras videos, Noraly mentions getting 25 GB of data for about $1.
Yeah exactly. She can upload a vid for a buck while she rides. Things are going to change for her once she gets into the States and Canada. Mind you, she can easily afford it now, but Europeans don't like to spend money.

And North Americans like spending money too much.

Should be able to upload for free from most of the hotels and Airbnbs she stays in in North America until she gets to rural BC.

All of the places I'm staying on my 2000 km trip this summer have high speed Internet.

I don't know, see how it works out. I know from experience that any wifi I've ever used at a hotel can barely play a Youtube video. Often you can't get a signal at all. Even in the higher end hotels.

When I did my Alaska ride for a month. Every Time Hortons along the way has free wifi, and a lot of the remote hotels have surprising good wifi. There are few places in the world you can't find a place to upload a vid or two once a week.

All I can do at this point is make a video of it next time I'm in a motel. Then you shall see!

It's seems like you are set on being convinced it isn't doable. I've traveled for weeks in Canada, the US, Europe and Morocco. I'm not itchyboots and doing this for a living. But I have had crappy wifi in Hilton Hotels, and blazing fast wifi in a mud house in the Sahara, I've even just asked people while camping that had RVs, if I could use their wifi. If you honestly think you can't find wifi once a week that is fast enough to upload a few gigs worth of data, no one is going to convince you.

No, Baldbiker is right. Many out of the way places in the US have very poor internet, I've stayed in a lot of cruddy country motels with really slow internet in the US.

For me this whole topic is becoming moot. I've decided not to bother trying to upload on the road. Im going to store everything on SD cards, carefully label everything and sort it all out when I get back. To deal with the lapse while I'm gone, I'll try to record and edit a series of videos filmed locally and schedule them out over the time I'm gone. When I get back I'll have weeks worth of editing to do, and I can also schedule them out for as long as they last.
