I don't monetize my videos, I just do it for fun. But I agree, It can help a new YouTuber grow their channel if there isn't an ad before hand. I typically will only wait for an ad from Youtubers I like to watch. It's a smart business move for YouTube. What I don't particularly like is how there is a 500 subscriber minimum for a custom domain name (youtube.com/burlyjack for example). I agree with their reasoning however 500 subscribers is a bit steep in my opinion.

has that changed? Was 100 subs the other day, was hoping to sort mine soon as the way my channel is going I'd hit 100 soon, but 500 is ages away!

I guess they lowered it and i didn't know it ;). Well that's awesome. I'm still a ways away from 100 but I think that's a more reasonable amount

This is my main channel on youtube, but I have two smaller ones for my other hobbies (marine fish keeping and art!) so it's all good to know. Really difficult to grow when it's under 100 subs lol

I have been reading up on it I am at 69 subs and close to 6k views. really not going to worry to much about it till its big enough to worry about. I turned monetization on early just so I could schedule videos.

I may be totally wrong, but I think YT doesn't pay anything to MCN because MCN themselves have & run their own ads, YT doesn't necessarily not pay you, just that if they won't run ads on your vids, you don't get a share, and to tally up to $100 may take a while, but this is not the same as YT saving from paying you. They are just paying to someone else instead which the ad is being run on.

And your point about advertisers wanting their ads on vids that get larger coverage makes sense. If I was an advertiser I would want to pay for the right coverage, and if YT is running (and charging me) for the ads on a not popular vid, I would not be happy.

Anyone that is starting up should just focus on getting your vids done good and have fun, not to worry about money, subs, views, etc.

That's what I think.

I agree, though there's logic to it as there are millions of channels with more than 100 subs, it's not a very high goal to reach.

A motorcycle, silly.
Pretty sure ads don't show on your videos unless you have a certain amount of subs or views anyway.. In all honesty, i really dont care about ads. Theres more to life than crying over a 5 second clip telling you to consume some crap. Honestly people! - I think everyone should have Ads enabled on their vids. 9.8 / 10 you're probably running adblocker anyway

Yes I do have Adblock running and I will never preach to let ads run or not to use Adblock plugin, it's your choice.

If people are so concerned about potentially having an ad blocked from running on their video when you view it, like as though their next meal depended on it, then they're obviously doing it wrong. Don't look to YouTube ads as a primary source of income.

If you are doing videos full time/professionally then just relying only on ads is also not the right path anyway.

Im not sure if adblock affects youtube ad revenue, since it is a client side app. Youtube doesnt know if you are blocking it or not. As long as the video is monetized, and someone clicks on the vid, the code sends the ad to you, revenue is recorded.

I bet my pretty penny that the websites will definitely know if you are running Adblock while on their site, how many times have you seen the message "Please disable Adblock" on certain sites you visit, like free live streaming sites.. So they can definitely know if the plugin is running or not. :)
