Ozarks Meetup 2012

I was thinking that we stopped there every year we have been in the Ozarks.

Nah, the 2nd year we didn't stop in Jasper, except maybe for gas, and while we waited for Brock to get that pos CBR running again..

Hahaha...I hated that F3. Don't tell him I said so, though. :D

We stopped there the first year and last year. Not the year in between.

Just talked to him. They have 35 rooms left. I told him to book 15 rooms for us under youtube motovlogger group. We can cancel the rooms if we have less than that coming.
So I should call, tell them I want one of the motovlog group rooms then? I was planning on doing that this week.

Ok guys, here are the tentative routes. Feel free to offer up some input.

Sat: http://g.co/maps/fr673

Gas and breakfast (provided the cafe is open that early) in Jasper (marker B). Photo op at marker D. Lunch/gas in Clarksville (F), then back to the hotel. This is arguably the shorter of the two routes and will leave more than enough time for social hour during and after dinner at the hotel.

Sun: http://g.co/maps/7snt4

This one is a fair bit longer. There's a cafe for lunch at D, but we can easily make the 10 mile ride into Mountain Home if there's nothing promising in Norfolk, because sometimes google lies. We should be able to find gas in Norfolk, Marshal, and Jasper.

Normally we stop every hour or so, whenever it's convenient, for a short break and a BS session so don't trust what google says for travel times as these stops will easily turn a 250 mile day into a 9hr affair.

I was wondering if you were going to throw that Push Mountain Road in there somewhere. I was reading that it was a great 25 mile stretch.

Only other thing I can see, is maybe doing that 327 to 7 loop if we finish up early enough on Sat.

You can thank Ardell for mentioning that one to me...

I was thinking the same thing. We can make that decision whenever we get back to Jasper. Anyone who doesn't want to do it can just head north. The loop only adds an hour or so to the ride, but if it's -anywhere- near dusk I'd advise against doing it.

Attendees list added to the original post, if your name isn't on it lemme know. We're looking at 13-15 people so far, not a bad turnout, but hopefully we can get more!

I seem to recall rte 16 (east of sand gap) being pretty fun, but I'm not sure what route we took last time we were there (which was year 2, I think). Pretty sure that's where we saw the loose cow...

Maybe we did 16 to 27 back to 7?

Room booked. It'll be my first time out there with the group. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and getting some great riding in!

Man I don't remember what we did. I just remember small chunks from those years. That cow scared the sh*t out of me though.

Trinith, I'm 90% sure I am going to be there. I'm still working out a couple of loose ends that shouldn't be a problem though. Might want to change my name to "probably" or something until I am 100%.

Also, I believe that Rynoride is coming, and he mentioned to me that he is trailering another bike, so, you might want to add Rynoride + 1 as a "maybe" too.

Meh, 90% is good enough for me. I think Rynoride and Cashstore are coming together, but I'm not completely sure. Surely one of them will say something on FB or here in the next day or so.

Good job Trinith, well done! :D

Saturday - Glad to see we head south, AR-123 starts out with a bang (the super tight switchbacks) and turns into gentle twisties all the way into Clarksville. We should see the Elk again @ Ponca and will end on Wilks favorite (until Sunday, lol) AR-74.

Sunday - Trinith, right where you have the "B" spot (County RD 504), um, night quite sure WTF that is, lol, guess we'll find out. If it ends up being a gravel road, it's an easy jog north to Yellville. :D AR-14 to Push Mountain is a great ride. The southern half of AR-341 is as close to a race track as you find in the wild, it's probably better than most tracks. There is usually a photographer shooting on AR-341, so don't get caught with your finger in your nose. We're good for food/gas in Norfork, it's a nice little town.

XXX526, is there a Welcome to Missouri sign on Hwy 14? Was thinking about getting to the hub a little early on Friday so I can make a run up there to say I have been to MO on the bike!!

No, you'd have to go north up 65 for the sign, just south of Hollister. We stopped at the sign @ Ozark Meet-up #2. I took a wizz there, (on the Arkansas side of course).

65, that is what I meant, just didnt have Google Maps zoomed in enough. Looks like it is only about 35 min or so north of where we are staying.

Well, it looks like a decent road, but I've said that before. :) If mapquest gives me shit about going through there (like it did 2 years ago..) then I'll just reroute. It's not like we haven't had to turn back due to dirt before...

I finally found a photo I've been looking for for a while now. This is where we'll stop for the photo op, but I doubt we'll be able to get all the bikes onto that little ledge. There's a sidewalk right beside it we can park on for a bit to get a pretty decent shot though.

I'll check it out before the Meetup and see what it really is. These are good routes - I was playing around with some routes for a Triumph RAT Meetup in April and a lot of the roads you picked are the same ones I had in mind as well. Honestly - riding in the northern-half of Arkansas is like pizza, it's pretty hard to make a wrong choice. :D My wife and I usually just get on our bikes in the morning and ride till dark, not paying attention to what roads we were on. Been lost more than once, lol, and that's fine.
