Ozarks Meetup 2012

I have graduation the weekend before this trip so I think this will be my mini vacation before I go off to work. The only thing that would be keeping me back is if i don't have a bike during this time. alas, I'm divulging too much information that I hope to put in a new video...

Would be a great vacation. :) Although..you'll probably be tired after it, lol.

For me, it's at least 2 days travel each way, at least.

It take 2 days to travel 237 miles??? If the meetup moved any further north, we would be doing it in Missouri, not Arkansas..lol

Have you seen her bike? That thing has like 3 HP and goes 25mph... maybe 35 with a tail wind.

The KLX will do more than 35mph with a tail wind. I know, I saw it last year. I am pretty damn sure, no one was expecting her to ride the 50cc scooter from KC to The Hub.

Even if it did top out at 30, it'd still be doable in under 12hrs..

Well, beyond the fact that LJ will throw every excuse in the book not to be there, you know this white boy will be there with motherfuckin bells on, ready to ride and drink cold beer in the evenings!!!

Sounds like a plan! I should even be able to bring my own beer this time, since I'll be driving an SUV up there... :)

I think LJ's real reasoning though is that with her big bore kit she can't ride at highway speed for that long of a time. It'd be near redline and bad on her motor... if she reads below though maybe she'll reconsider.

I'm going to request off the 18th and 21st at work and see what happens. Assuming it's approved I'll be there and I'm coming in my truck. I have access to a trailer so.... there would be room for another bike on it. (I need to verify this before any hard plans are made)

Yes, this. It's a matter of "should not," not "cannot."

But if you're trailering.... I'd totally consider it, assuming I have the bike Fully Operational by then. This weekend was going to be wheel bearings, tires, and chain... but it's freezing and my garage is a mess and my roommate needs help with her car. So, it's roommate car maintenance and garage deep cleaning/reorganizing. There's a work bench in there somewhere, supposedly...

I also will need to replace my exhaust valves, apparently. I said I was going to go ahead and do head work at the same time when that day came, but the day is here and I don't have the coin yet. So, I'm still going to just replace stock valves and not get fancy high dollar ones yet. Valves are only about $40/each to replace what I need. I am highly tempted to pay an employee at work to do it on the side for me, though, as he's a certified mechanic and would do it for a fraction of what the shop would have to charge.

ANYway.... I've got months to get all this done, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Dodge, if you're trailering, it might be fun to bring Jazz, too, for beer runs and such at the hotel (LOL). Every event needs a pit bike.

To sum up (gosh, i ramble when i'm tired and have had a long day):

I will request the dates off work on Tuesday.

I will get everything fixed with my bike that I need to.

I will try to make it.

It would take two days, because my bike is not geared or designed for long mileage trips. I should not cruise above 50, except in short bursts. Also, I would be exhausted and unable to enjoy the weekend if I did that in 1 day on my bike. I'm not riding a BMW or VFR, you know? 200+ miles is a LONG time on a glorified dirt bike.

There's nothing close enough to the motel to ride a pit bike to. It's off the beaten path, in fact if you don't know about it, you'll pass right by it. There used to be a road sign advertising the motel, but there has been some near-by road construction and I'm not even sure the sign's still standing.

LJ - You were a few bikes behind me, but I'm sure your bike was going faster than 50 mph more than not. :D The big question is your fuel range since you modified the 'tard. If I recall, you were breathing fumes around 90-100 miles, right? You saw first-hand how few gas stops there are in the region. What kind of mpg's are you getting now?

Oh, yeah. I forgot about the dry county thing. Bummer.

I didn't say my bike couldn't go faster. I said it shouldn't go faster sustained for any length of time. Shouldn't hold rev above 8k rpm, which is about indicated 60.

I have since added the aux tank, so I'm up to 3 gallons, with about 40mpg. If I get the jetting dialed in and my exhaust valves fixed, that should be back up to about 55mpg, minimum. I should be good, with that extra gallon. I still will probably bring an emergency extra half gallon strapped on the bike somewhere.

It's not about whether it's in a dry county or not, because I don't believe it is. It's about the fact that this hotel is in the middle of the woods 10 miles from anything. Which is part of what makes it so awesome.

"Hey, Mom! Guess what?? I'm going to go spend the weekend in a secluded part of the Ozark woods with a bunch of guys I met online!"

Sounds legit...

So if beer is not readily available there am I to presume that I need to brew up a special 5 gallon batch just to bring along with me?

Oh, and to update, I'm all set except for confirming vacation... I have a trailer in place, I have set up the plans for myself and as many other bikes/bikers I can bring along with me, and I am going to schedule the room tomorrow... once vacation is confirmed I'll be in. Looks like th

Newton County is indeed a "dry" county, but Arkansas law permits each municipality to vote on local sale of alcohol. Since I don't normally consume alcohol, I never payed attention wether or not the one and only gas station there had any or not. I'm making reservations tomorrow, I'll ask the motel owner about it. Beer runs can be made, it's been done before. :D

Nice cliffhanger of a post..lol.

I normally wind up bringing about 4 to 6 cases of beer with me. A couple for me and Matth1138, then Billy, Tracey, and Alan usually want a case of Yuengling each. That makes for an annual trek to Mobile, Alabama to pick that stuff up.

If gas makes it to 4.00+ a gallon this year before the meetup, there will be a fuel tax added to the shipping cost of the beer....just FYI

The gas station in Jasper DOES sell beer (no Yuengling Trace).

When making your reservation at the HUB - please let Debbie know that you will be with the MotoVlog group so that she can try to keep all our rooms as close together as possible. It would be a good idea to all that plan to go to get that reservation made, as this place can book up quickly - a lot of events are staged out of there.
