New Gopro Hero 5!

session supports external mic?

man, I picked up my hero4 and session almost exactly 1 year ago (oct 7, 2015) at REI. The guy there was like "return it when the new one comes out!"

but I love REI and would feel scummy doing that.
the hero4 has been replaced 2x by gopro already though, and although this is a new one, I'm not sold on the reliability.
I did, however, put a lot of effort into the mic setup for it and my helmet so I'm reluctant to let go.

the hero5session with a mic would be AWESOME for mounting up on top of my helmet third eye style (between the two air vents on my RF1200)

tempting.

tempted to get the session for my helmet then use my 3+ for a different angle then add sena backpack for dual vlogging with mates.

You can but that uses the same port as an external mic, so no voice recording unless you use an external recorder
Talking about voice recording. Is it just me or does de GP5 has a USB-C (not mini USB), accessible on the side with a cover which is attached to the GP? What I mean is: when it's in the case and mounted on fe a helmet, can you still attach an external mic, since it looks like the cover has to be open?

Well the USB-C is new  Looks like we'll be needing adaptors for our mics.

My Hero 4 has a cover over the usb/sd card ports, to use the usb port while mounted the cover needs to be removed. I imagine it'll be the same deal with the hero 5

Don't think I will be springing for a new one just yet. I still rock a Hero 3+ Black. I might pick up a 4 since the prices will be going down though. I think in terms of action cams I tend to ride a generation behind and I'm totally ok with that.

It can't be the same as it is waterproof without a housing. It looks to be the same mechanism as the previous Session model. This means you need a flap open to access the ports.

Thats what I mean. Cover = Flap. It'll have to be open/removed to use the port meaning it probably won't be fully waterproof.

Ah, because on the older GoPro's you can completely remove the cover while on the newer ones the flap remains attached (hence flap not cover).

Ah, just a misunderstanding :) Hopefully there'll be a way to completely remove the flap on the new ones, with it flapping about in the wind it's sure to break off

I mean at that point in terms of motovlogging use you might as well either rip it off or poke a hole in it. I like the fact that it doesn't have to be in a case, but the flap is kind of meh.
