How To Get Your Channel Noticed On Youtube

CanuckMotovlogs (Gear, Rides & Reviews!!!!!!)
Hello all, i am just starting out on youtube and have uploaded a number of videos in the past couple of days and i am wondering how i should promote my channel to get it noticed. i enjoy producing videos and motovlogging and i would just like to start to get a small following. i have five subscribers so far, but as is in my nature, i would like to aim big.

My Channel is called CanuckMotovlogs, and if you could kindly check out my videos and give some suggestions it would be greatly appreciated! I am not advertising, I would just like some help and suggestions on what i could improve on in my content and channel!

i am new to this forum and i did not know where to put this thread in relation to category. if i am wrong in where i placed it i will relocate my question to there.

Golden rule of youtubing. "Chase the fun of it, not the fame."
Generally, if you keep at it, do what you want and have fun doing it, subs will come to you.
That said, some advertising can't hurt. Some have a presence on every social media, some give out business cards.
Another way is to just stay relevant and make things people might just simply search for, as you do with reviews.

Also Welcome!, also, this thread belongs in the "general discussion" forum in the motovlogging section.

Make good content and the rest will come. Get your channel noticed by commenting on related videos. Become active in forums/groups etc. and have your channel link on signatures.

This is what I preach. If you have no passion for the art of creating content you are best to seek another hobby. And trust me, it is an art and very time consuming if you are a perfectionist. Far too many YouTubers try too hard, are pretending to be someone they are not and just slap soulless content out there. You either got that X factor and blow up in a short time or you don't. And if you are like 99.9% of youtube (myself included), you are not. But even at 2.5K subscribers after almost 3 years I couldn't be happier!

There should be something stickied that we can reference people to as this question seems to come up a lot.

All great responses so far, but Ill add that you should do stuff that sets you apart from the crowd and give people a reason to watch.

Be active on other yotuber's videos. They see you and might sub back, and others will see you too

This.

Join in, participate, comment on other vids (don't over do it tho), turn up to meets, hand out stickers or cards. You want interaction and views more than you want subs.

I just simply enjoy riding, and people enjoy motovlogging, so i tried it out, and have made a whole bunch of videos that i have yet to post do to horrendous audio of my voice using the GoPro mic alone (bike sounds great though:p). I started out my channel by talking about stuff, and making videos on my motorcycle that don't need voice audio to get my channel started. If anyone would like to give suggestions in how to improve my current content by watching my videos it would be greatly appreciated! My channel is CanuckMotovlogs. I really appreciate all of the tips and help with getting my channel started, and if anyone wants me to check out their channels i would gladly return the favour!

Cheers,
Owen

I can't really comment on how to improve content, but there are ways to get the word out there.
  • If you're on a social media network, Facebook for example, make a page for yourself and share the videos there. Use your own page to share the videos. Get the people in your friends list to watch and spread the word. They may not watch it, but they may suggest it to people they know who might be interested.
  • Comment on YouTube videos of other motovlogs. If the video posted is related to one of yours in some way, talk about that. Other people who comment or who read the comment section might visit you out of curiosity.
  • Be active on riding groups and forums. People who watch your content are mostly people who ride. That's where you want to be.
  • Ask your close friends to watch it and provide feedback. Some may be relevant and some may not. Either way, you get more than what you had before.

My motovlog videos, for the most part, get fewer views than other types of videos that I do. I still do it because it's fun. That's really the most important. If you don't enjoy it, you're not going to want to keep doing it, because it can be a pain in the ass at times. Don't worry about subs at all. Enjoy yourself and do what Lurch and BBQ Rider stated above and it will happen.

You have to sacrifice a goat the the motovlog in God's and drink the blood of a squid and a cage for the next 66 days.

That is the only and the best way to gain subs.

Seriously though.

It's not the subs you want, it's viewer interaction and retention.

Interaction is key here.

Be in it for the community, the fun, not the money, views or fame (I appraciate that's not what you are asking but this is just me going off on one)

Now:
Promotion on social media such as Facebook, Twitter Instagram is key. Instagram is the HUGE thing right now because it's so simple and quick for people.

Consistency is key too. Active channels bring in more traffic. Posting regularly helps a lot.

Brand recognition. Not many people agree here but having a consistent aesthetic, logo, gimmick, jingle helps you get recognised and therefore people start to attach themselves to it all.

I'm at the beginning stages too, but studying what works and what doesn't helped a lot.

Also, don't just look at motovlogs.
Look at other youtubers, radio broadcasts, podcasts, blogs, articles and even TED for inspiration and guidance how to get better.

Hope this helps.

One thing I haven't seen in this topic yet: regular uploads! (Nvm I am blind...)

Whenever I come across a new motovlogger (to me at least), I check how many videos he/she has and how regularly he/she uploads.

I tend not to subscribe to people if they upload once every 3 months, only if their content is really really good. If someone uploads regularly I want to give them a chance and will probably subscribe if the content is decent. It doesn't have to be good, but it should be decent.

Starting producing content can be really hard and I like to see people improving on their vlogging and editing skills.

Also, good video and audio quality is a must.

I am a small vlogger myself (currently have 5 subs) but I am really bad at promoting myself. Maybe it is because I am scared of bad feedback. :p I also don't want to beg for views or subs, that feels like spam.

I've set a goal for myself to reach 100 subs this year, and I hope I can make it by interacting with other vloggers and uploading the best videos I am capable of making.

I have only been doing the vlogging thing for about 4 months and when I first started I was really keen on views and subs but what has been said above is right.

Do it because you enjoy it and if people see you're doing what you enjoy then people will watch. Thats what I started doing and I seem to be getting more and more traffic through. Short videos also help, my shorter ones have the most views by a fair way!
