How Much Time Do You Spend On Editing?

Ever tried editing in 4k, requiring transcoding a proxy before relinking and rendering. So much time wasted before you even start editing.

And then the color correction and frame by frame touch ups.

If it was a normal videography video, it'd take me weeks to finish one.

Yes I've edited in 4K no problem. I have a very powerful machine though (overclcoked 5820k @ 4.6GHz, 32GB RAM and an R9 390).

Any reason you use After Effects for editing and not Premiere Pro?

Just because its what I use at work so I know it. I also have a template setup with my intro and outro as precomps so I can just drop in the new footage and get going. Render settings etc are all set up.

Also because I've never tried premier to be honest haha!

Cool! I was just curious as After Effects didn't strike me as pure video editing software, but I guess if you're skilled enough you can do it easier than us "self-taught" peeps

I'shave thought for the core editing requirements such as trimming clips and titling then Premier would be better, and for anything exciting, slip it in to Ae and back again as the workflow can be linked between the two. Premier will be better geared up for editing in general as well as the final product I'd have thought as the intention would be the the Effects created got dropped in to Prem.

Worth a look on YT for tutorials, and also search for "Adobe Premier and After Effects workflow", it's quite impressive how they integrate, far better than FCPX and Motion 5 (as far as I could tell anyway).

I spend abot 1-2 hours per video. That's all I can afford. But for the maintenance and how to vids, sometimes 3-4 hours. It just takes longer to do all the explanations in voice over and add the text at the right places. I'll probably get faster with practice and hope to create higher quality stuff too.

I think it takes somewhere between 2 and 4 hours for a 10 minute video. It really depends on the cuts, adding texts, effects, and figuring out stuff.

Browsing the video files themselves also take some time, I really should make a list in notepad for the footage that I want to use...

I'm on my forth video. This one is more detailed and I'm at about 15 hours and only half done. This one is going to be my blockbuster:)
Others took about 4 hours.
