I got a drift because of the "options" that it comes with that would be extra with the GoPro. Remote, LCD screen, waterproof without case, mounting without case.

The only reason I chose the Drift was because of how sleek it was, and lets be honest it cost alot less.

It is very sleek and looks less foreign on helmets IMO. A drift on a matte black helmet is such a good looking match.

Well you can get the 2014 Hero for almost 3 hours battery life but that's only 1080p30 or 720p60.

GoPro are just going in completely the wrong direction with their newer models.

All I want is 1080p60 with more than 2.5 hours battery, but every model they release has less battery life for the same settings as they keep using less efficient components to brag about their bigger numbers.

Buying a GoPro 4 series model is not worth it, their older models are a lot better is you want that form factor.

With LiPo batteries the physical size is the limiting factor for how much charge it can hold, kinda obvious.

I don't know what the main market for action cameras is, probably not motovlogging, so if you're skiing, how long is any given scenario that you'd use the camera for?

Must be a reason GoPro built their case at that size surely?

Speculating and musing out loud really, but you'd need quite some size camera to get a 5 hour battery life at 1080/60. Ghost S will do 2.5h or close to at that, so you'd probably add 1/3 to the size of a Drift for a 5h ride.

So if a GoPro 4 running 4K30 does 30m, what does it do at 1080/60?

I got 4 hours out of my GoPro Hero 3+ at 1080/60 with the Wasabi Power backpack battery.

I had to send it back because a clip broke, and now they don't sell them anymore. So I can't get hold of a replacement.

I think I watched one of Micbergsma videos and think I recall it did 1080/60 for 55-60minutes. Haven't tried it out yet. I am wondering though.... why record at 4k? I watched a youtube video at 4k and it was stunning BUT rendering/uploading must be pretty heavy or maybe just have to keep video's shorter like 4-5 minute versions? Also I have a pretty decent connection at 30mbps down and 4k video was quite a bit to download the video with it stopping a few times.

Blindingly obvious ;)

It depends on the model. The 4 Silver (1h15m) lasts way longer than the 4 Black (45m) for example. The 3+ Black (1h30m) lasts longer than the 4 Silver. All at the same 1080p60, but the "better" models use more power hungry components.

You got a 4K monitor?

Well at 4k I think the video was 1440 maybe? So yes a monitor can display this. It wasn't earthshakingly better over 1080 but then again it was just a road vlog of someone tolling down some side road (I can post up a link if thats allowed and I still have the link). If you were on vacation someplace cool then I bet you would get some awesome video. I dont think there are TV's with 1440 resolution yet are there? So you wouldn't be able to stream it over the screen?

Woah, 4k is 2160p not a mere 1440p! The difference is immense!

There are plenty of 4K TV's now too, but they're not cheap and not in that many homes.

Then I dunno. I watched a 4k video on youtube and I thought it said 1440 next to it but maybe I remembered it wrong. Maybe there is something funny going on.

1440 is nearer 2.7K I think.

Also, YouTube says it limits what you see based on the capacity of your connection and screen. How that works in real life I don't know, but little point watching something with more "p" than your screen has height in pixels.

Well you can wire any camera up to USB for infinite recording time (memory card permitting), just don't forget you're wired up!

Looked it up and briefly skimmed over it. 1440 is something related to 4k but so is 2160. Something to do with devices. And since I'm just a newbie trying to learn I'll shut up and listen :)
