Cardo can now record your intercom chat

Hi guys!

Yes with Crew, people can join at any distance as long as you have a way to share the ride link, or have been connected previously in a ride. Then you can simply invite riders from within the app.

I can only enable the voice (un)filtering for your own mic, I can't get the full mic of the other riders. They could disable the noise reduction but it will still only transmit when they speak, therefore record only voice.

For Ogg vs MP3, at the moment I do not have mp3 support. VLC and Audacity can work with these files so it should not be too hard to work with.

For voice separation, would you be okay with local Microphone on the right channel, and Others on the left?
I have an initial version for iPhone. Android will follow quickly.

Voice commands are not on the short term horizon.

Testflight there:

check settings to enable audio recording, noise reduction, vlogging.
Start a ride, then from the map, you click 'home' to see a menu in ride, which has a start recording button, which becomes a stop recording button while it is recording. It will tell everybody they are being recorded.
When you make recordings, they are published to the Document directory for the Crew App.
You can find the files using Apple's files app, on your iphone: crew-recording-##.ogg .

Let me know how that feels.

Christophe

I am super interested in this as a motovlogger... But I also have to have my admin/mod hat on, Please feel free to share info, but don't spam please, ty.
I understand and hear you. Thx!
I am obviously interested in getting visibility as well as helping out.
I was planning the audio recording of rides for a long time as I read many times that audio recording is a PITA for moto-vlogging. I wasn't fast enough to beat Cardo to it. But unlike Cardo, I can separate the audio stream from the user and the other riders (as requested above) and support any intercom brand, via the app as long as they are connected via bluetooth to a mobile phone. The quality will vary based on the HFP level provided.

You now have a link for iOS beta and I will also post the Android one as soon as it is working.
Cheers!

If you have audio clips of comms talk, please share them... but keep them under 1min in length and not monetised, be interesting to hear how solo comms, rider and pillion comms, and rider to rider comms sound on the app for sure!

Only unfiltered own voice is required.

Yes, that's fine.

The android version is still gated by Google review (even on beta). Hopefully they will review quickly.

Note: Iphones have to start microphone audio recording while the app is foreground. But once it is recording, you can lock the phone and put it away and it continues to work: voice chat with buddies as well as audio recording to storage.

I will update as soon as Android beta is live.

let me know if you need help with the app. I do realize that it is not as simple as it could be. To record audio you must enable the audio recording in the settings THEN you can start/stop recording from within a ride, using the HOME icon (bottom right) then Start/Stop recording button in the menu. When recording, there is a red dot blinking on the map. It is also announced to all riders. Then when you leave the ride or stop recording, that recording appears in your files (audio or music) as ##timestamp##.ogg

How do you choose people to connect with? I tried it quickly with my friend this evening, and it seemed it connected to him without me doing anything at all.

If you were nearby the phones exchanged ride data over Bluetooth or wifi. The auto join is a setting. Otherwise from within the ride you can share the link or show a qrcode.

Had a very quick go this morning, but only from the house. My pal in Scotland connected with me via the Crew App and we were talking at a distance of 406 miles apart. I was on Wifi at home, he was on data in his car. Only on for a few minutes, but initially the connection seemed broken but after about 20 seconds, it was very clear. If it records in that quality, it would be very usable. Some questions if I may:

I pressed record ride and it flashed the red dot to say it was recording. It recorded the "ride" as a gpx file, but how do I get to hear what it recorded of my voice?
Am I correct in assuming I connect my phone to my Cardo Intercom as normal. and the app records that? If so, where does it save the audio file as I can't seem to find it.

Thank you

Happy it worked. :)
You're correct, it will record cardo (or any intercom)mic input.

The file is automatically saved in your normal audio/music directory in the phone storage for Android. . For ios it would be available in the files app, on my iPhone, in the crew directory.

I will later add a UI to list the existing recordings.

Let me know if you find the file.

Thanks Christophe, I found the .ogg file in my android audio files. Sorry, I didn't see it when I first looked.
You'll be happy to hear, it's crystal clear.
I will test it on the bike properly on Monday hopefully, with and without filtering on

A little update:
I paired my phone to the Cardo and then started the CREW app. Recorded my self near perfectly ( Once I'd found the file that was staring me straight in the face)
I connected to my mate in Scotland, 406 miles apart and for the most part it was ok. Some distortion now and then, but usable.
I had a very short ride the other morning in the rain, and tried it again. Using the CREW app on my phone in front of me on the handlebars, I had the map showing. I could clearly see the red dot flashing telling me I was recording myself.
The map constantly changed from portrait view to landscape, changing from left to right landscape and even upside down. Don't think it was my phone causing that as having Google open on my phone does not cause this normally.
I found I had a periodic crackling noise in my earbuds , again I haven't noticed this before.
Listening back to the recording, for the most part it was clear, almost very clear. But, on the bike in the wind, possibly because of the Cardo mic and settings, it came out like this:
I also had one episode of it crashing and needed to restart the app.
It's definitely got potential, funny how Cardo say you can't record through their app on the older models of Cardo. How strange then, that there I was, recording my Cardo audio through an app!

has anyone else tried CREW yet?
