All the stuf about the Hero12 straight from GoPro theirself

Mainly at 60. Been dropping to 1080 at 60 for most the summer, when I actually record, to try and avoid that with how hot it has been.
Shoot at 2.7k or 4k, but 30fps. I think it's much easier on the heat of the GoPro.

I shot at 2.7k/30 all summer long, nary a hiccup.

Keep in mind higher frame rates are what makes for better footage for a lot of movement -

I bought one and returned it the next day. I thought the Log profiles would be a massive difference compared to shooting in Flat, in increasing the dynamic range, but the difference was very small. The only real advantage was the 8:7, for someone like myself, as I can nicely use the same footage for both videos, and vertical reels/shorts. - but not everyone will need this.

I finally pulled the trigger and got the DJI Action 4, and it just works - that's what you want from a camera, no freezing, no overheating, etc.. And also a few quality of life improvements like the magnetic mount, vertical case, love their battery charging case + a few slots of extra SD cards. Their thumbscrew is so much easier to use. the menu just works without any issues. It's like they took everything from GoPro but made it even better.

But the main reason for the switch was the overheating - if you shoot in 24/25/30fps, you might not have this issue but there are numerous tests online that if you put a bit more pressure and let's say you shoot 50/60fps, it overheats sooner than the battery dies, whilst the action 4 doesn't seem to have this problem.

Not to mentioned the recording time, where you get about 50 -60mins with gopro, and almost 2 hours with the action 4. I've only had it for a few days, but I absolutely love it so far.

I don't disagree, not one iota. I shoot in 30 because I like a bit of motion blur. I'd shoot at 24fps, since obviously I'm making Hollywood-quality cinematic videos every day, but I can't figure it out. :D

I should try out 60fps again, see what happens. I haven't recorded in 60fps for over 2 years now.

Regarding heat + battery improvements - this is why I use a power bank instead of batteries. My GoPro gets so hot in its abysmal 40min battery life but since swapping power source, it’s so much cooler for obvious reasons.

I’m looking into possibly getting a new camera next year and with how well the competitors are doing, it’s really making it a tough choice ‍♂️

I saw that GoPro started to clarify what they used to determine the up to 2x runtime:

I had to do the math on the 0.6m/sec. That is 1.34 miles per hour.
Yeah, they added that pretty quickly upon release.

I have recorded for over 30 minutes continuous at 4k/30, and it's right in line with the Hero 10 at 4k/30. Within 2% of each other. So, something was grossly wrong with the 11, which I don't own.

So buying a 12 if you have 10 already is not going to get you much at that res/FPS?

I see that the your result for the 10 is half as short than the GoPro time published for that camera:

And Waaayyyyy shorter than what GoPro has for the 12 at that resolution and FPS:

Looks like they cannot be trusted?

So, I wasn't QUITE clear, sorry for that. The batteries didn't die, I just finished the project I was doing. I recorded for over 30 minutes and the batteries were at 60% and 62%... so they CAN do close to what GoPro says... but there's no real increase in battery life from the 10 to 12, from what I experienced.

Both cameras were static-mounted with all the same features turned on, no max lens mod, but they were both in Media Mods.
