On the helmet is the way to go. On the bike is nice for just riding about, but if you want to let the viewers feel more engaged, helmet PoV would be the way. Plus it has generally less vibrations than on the bike, but that depends on helmet and mounting position.
What I find with top mount is that it's difficult to see the cockpit of the bike. If you see a lot of cockpit, then you only see a few meters of road. When I started I used the chin but the helmet I used for that ended up saving my live at NJMP track so I switched to the same brand helmet but different style and there is no way to chin mount so I went the top of helmet...aka Teletubby way!
I made my XR1100 work with chin mount, just use a lot of 3M and fill up the empty void, 250km/h no problem. What I find with top mount is that it's difficult to see the cockpit of the bike. If you see a lot of cockpit, then you only see a few meters of road.
I'm using chin, but want to try side mount, mainly because my XR/RF-1100 doesn't allow for chin mount.
I did that on my XR-1000 and worked quite well, but with the XR-1100 I would have to use like too much tape. I'm sure it will work, no doubt! But maybe I'll use it as an excuse to try the side mount. If I don't like it, will try what you say! Thanks SighBored!I made my XR1100 work with chin mount, just use a lot of 3M and fill up the empty void, 250km/h no problem.![]()
The custom wedge I had to form for my as100 to do a side mount was way to labor intensive and I didn't like the fact that once taken off the Velcro I couldn't ensure that the same angle was achived when putting back on.... So I ordered the new Sony helmet side mount kit. Should be in tomorrow so I'll give a nice review of the install and see how the mic placement works out! Btw, it is part number SOVCTHSM1
I haven't slept in 4 days because of some tooth pain and it's my first slide show I've ever done but here it is. Looking at it now I could flow it a bit better and do a few more pics for clarity...but next time (and ask away for questions)My setup right now with my AS15 includes velcro. I've been researching different side mount options for the camera, and I have a couple of routes I can go. Did you ever get that review up?
