I'm so confused! Went to play a 4k video today and it said 2160 4k. 4k video's that happily played for me yesterday wont today. Went back to the old 4k video I mentioned and its settings have changed... I think but now its 2160 4k but I was probably mistaken.

4K = 3840x2160
2.7K = 2704x1524
1080 = 1920x1080
720 = 1280x720

Or in terms of (rough) megapixels:

4K: 9MP
2.7K: 4MP
1080P: 2MP
720P: 1MP

4K is an insane leap in quality over 1080P when you look at those numbers, 4.5x the improvement you get from 720p to 1080p.

I personally had bad experience with the Ghost, lots of freezing and weird noises over the video. Got a new one under warranty and same thing...

I am really happy with my cheap Garmon Virb. Does exactly what is needed and at good quality alongside an external microphone and good waterproofing and mount.

I just want to throw this out there that it really does matter the trim level of gopro you buy. Standard, White, Silver, Black in that does dictate your picture quality. They do not shoot the same in equal resolution settings. For example, 1080p30 on a white is noticably lower quality than 1080p30 on a silver.

I shot all of 2014 riding season on a white. Then the usb slot broke and I bought a silver basically because that's what they had at the store. On paper they listed the same for the setting I record on. But once I looked at the videos it's a huge difference. No changes to my rendering settings.

You can see what I'm talking about if you look at my most recent vids (silver), and my vids in the 2014/early 2015 timeline (white).

Of course they don't. It's all about the size of the sensor.

A £400 Canon 600D filming in 1080P is not going to look the same as a $50,000 RED 4K movie camera filming in 1080P now is it?

I know this, and you know this, but the general public will just look at buzz words like "1080p" and "60fps" and not know or care about bit rates and sensor sizes.

I'll tell ya what, I got a real nice set of two Hero 3 Silvers with a ton of mounts and several batteries for $500 which I think is a killer deal for everything that I got.

Setting up a crotch cam view?
Well, my old GoPro Hero 2 met it's demise at the hands of my younger cousin so I needed to get something figured out. I found the ad on Craigslist, checked them out and all of the accessories so I figured that it would be a cool idea to have my chin mount and play with other mounting ideas on the bike.

I have yet to get a bike, but have a set of sony action cams I have been vlogging with for a year. I can't recommend the white bodied versions that are not the 4K ones due to the power button being a POS. The 4K has the button on the top, and also has a built in screw that is offset from the mic jack, so it's vlog ready. The ones I have (as15 and as100) are not vlog ready without doing some mods to them if I want to use their audio. I am thinking about getting a separate voice recorder and get audio that way once it is time. As CarVlog cameras they work awesome!

Personally I am thinking about going GoPro. bakerXderek has been using one for a while. But, I am also on a budget. And I like the sony action cam formfactor. So I might just get that 4K one when I am with bike.

Hey everyone new to the site im screamingtroll Nice to meet ya!, Anywho im currently trying to decide between the Gopro hero 3 or the Ghost s any information would be appreciated pros and cons etc thanks in advance Troll.

DRIFT CAM IS GREAT IF HAVE YOU WANT TO HAVE IT MOUNTED ON THE SIDE OF YOUR HELMET OR ONTOP.THE FACE THAT YOU CAN ROTATE THE LENS IS PROBABLY THE GREATEST FEATURE OF THIS CAM AND IT'S BATTERY LIFE. I HEARD SOMEWHERE AROUND 2HRS. CON WOULD BE THAT IT HAS LESS ACCESSORIES AS THE GOPRO.NOW THAT MIGHT NOT MATTER IF YOU ONLY PLAN ON USING IT ON YOUR HELMET.

THE GOPRO IS GREAT BECAUSE YOU CAN MOUNT IT PRETTY MUCH ANYWHERE. I HAVE MINE CHIN MOUNTED ONTO MY HELMET.THE DRIFT CAM YOU CAN'T DO THAT.ANOTHER THING IS THE AMOUNT OF ACCESSORIES THAT ARE AVAILABLE FOR IT JUST MAKES IT MORE VERSATILE. CONS OF THIS CAM WOULD BE THAT ITS A BRICK SO IT WOULD HAVE ALOT MORE DRAG AND WEIGHT WHEN MOUNTING IT TO YOUR HELMET.THE BATTERY LIFE FOR IT IS ABOUT AN 1HR AT 1080P,NOT REALLY ALOT OF RECORDING TIME.

I have the Drift 1080, which is a little older than the Ghost. It's...OK. The GoPro seems to have crisper video and better light/dark balance then the drift. I correct some in production. The zoom on the Drift sacrifices image quality, big time, especially if you are moving. Don't know about the Go Pro in that area. The Drift is pretty tough, is water resistant and has a soft rubber shell. I've dropped it on the concrete a couple of times and it kept on ticking. Go Pro is good for chin/top/visor. I don't know if I'd recommend the Drift for anything but side. Maybe top.

Had a go pro. Sold it and bought a drift. Much easier to use and mount and less wind drag on the bash hat.
