Running With The Chesty

Well, I ran the NYC marathon a few weeks ago. Picked up my GoPro with the chesty at mi24, I was so delusional I couldn't figure out the straps and my GF had to help me with it LOL

I did also use a non powered external MIC which did pretty good! I will be doing some more experimenting with this one as the Audio Technica has shot up in price recently. Its nice they include an adapter with this but it fits WAY too loose in the USB port (at least in my Hero3 which has been used with the GoPro branded adapter since new)

Obviously the biggest issue while running is stabilization! I tried running the Sony Stabilize in Vegas but it looked horrible so I figured the raw experience would be best.

I do wonder if you could mod the chesty to hold one of those 3axis motor driven stabilizers...

It's very difficult to view that with the amount of camera sway. Did you use the widest possible field of view? That tends to make camera sway less of an issue.

YouTube stabilisation is also one of the market leaders in the technology, have you tried enabling that? Although with the source material I don;t think it will help much.

Yep widest possible but its just so much movement as you mentioned...I was going to try one of the Gimbal motorized stabilizers but was concerned about killing it with sweat/water e/t/c...

I had a Drift HD170 mounted on my shoulder recently for a a Mud obstacle race thingy recently. Very mixed results. I was considering trying something else chest mounted next time, but seeing this I might have to reconsider again. Maybe a cheap SJ4000 on a headband or something!!

Great efforts with the running though, very well done!

I need to find a solution for this too as I will be recording a tough mudder style event in Switzerland next year.

I had an idea for a solution, but I would have looked like a bit of a bellend.

I was going to mount the camera onto a bicycle helmet. Lightweight, well vented and tough. But vanity got the better of me!

Next time though, I'm just going to shave my head and superglue the drift mount straight to my scalp....

I have done the bike helmet mount as well, its pretty noticeable weight even on a road ride...Even snugging down the helmet tensions system left it a bit floppy

Did a "Tough Mudder" a couple years back, only concern I'd have about a chest mount would be the camera getting hung up on some of the obstacles. Nice part of the adventure races is that you can use some of the slower more stable footage
