What is your next channel goal?

You guys actually plan your videos!!!

I very rarely plan anything when it comes to filming videos, I plan my rides usually but don't put much thought into the actual filming side of those rides, I generally just start the camera going and leave it going, I have my gopro plugged in to an external battery pack in my jacket pocket and the insta 360 is plugged into the bike, I get approx 4 hours of recording time on each with 256gb cards, it does make the editing take a lot longer as got lots of hours of footage to edit down to 20mins or so,

I need to maybe start planning my filming more and only record when I need to it wpuld certainly make the editing process simpler/quicker, I did try to only record when something interesting was going on (nice roads, scenery etc) but I found that a lot of the time I was enjoying my riding too much that I completely forget to switch on the cameras until its too late... so for now the constant recording works with enough SD cards to last me about a week on the road without having to transfer footage, any longer trips then I'll take my small laptop with me to transfer footage onto a hard drive.

That's pretty much what I do. I take the drone with me also just in case there's something worthy. I'm terrible for switching on/off so they stay on

For me atleast "plan" is quite a strong word. I have ideas and thoughts, a route and maybe a topic to discuss, not sure it ever gets further than that before recording....

Basically what I do too, though I do need to get some 256gb cards. I'm lucky to get my videos down to a half hour, nevermind 20 minutes.

I've started thinking about different angles for my 360 camera, but it's very much a work in progress.

Not every system works for everybody. Planning is great in certain circumstances, when you have a good idea of what you want to achieve from the video. It's not much good if the plan is fairly loose or fluid, or if you want to include spontaneous moments. I have that same issue of sifting through hours of footage, not really knowing what will work, but I'd rather have too much than too little, or miss that thing that makes the video.

On my last 2 long trips 3 days or more I've had the drone with me also but it never left its case, one of them things when it wasn't until I was passed or back on the bike on the move that I thought " bugger, that would have been a good place to get the drone out"...

Aye true that, for me the constant filming is working for now although I haven't put out a video for about 2 weeks, I've got lots of footage to go through from my last 3 day trip but after spending all day in front of the computer at work I'm finding it hard to get the motivation to do the same after work.

I have worked hard over the last 2 years to cut down on editing time. I use the GoPro Remote to cut down the amount of footage I record, editing techniques and tricks to make it faster still, and then noodle things to talk about, so when I get to ride, I have something to talk about.

I don't go planning each shot, but sometimes I plan one or two. When I ride, I'll do certain things that I know "editing me" will understand and quickly fit in [like my side shots, or music playing so I know to time lapse it].

The full-time job is surely a detriment to YouTube fun, and family time, and household responsibilities... so I just don't sleep :D

Have a slightly rushed upload to come but one I've been planning a while! The goal now is to get back in to it! Unfortunately no riding for a week or so, just squished a disc in my back against a nerve. Nurefen coming outta my ears just now o_O
All my uploads feel rushed to me but people watch them....

Hope you are back riding soon.

I've just hit 150 subs, so I guess my next goal is 200.... not that I'm counting....

I'm not sure how my next few videos are going to work out. I have a vision in my head, but I'm not convinced I have the ability or footage to carry it off. We shall see....

Neil's post was back in 2019 :D

Out of interest, does anyone plan steps to reach their goals? Maybe a brainstorm or notepad of ideas?
I plan on giving away three $50 USD gift cards for public subscribers to my channel to celebrate 1500 subscribers. Has that resulted in a significant gain towards 2k subs?

Not really.

Yeah, recording IS more fun! I do like my editing, though.

3 hours to SET UP to edit? OUCH!

That new computer can't get there fast enough.

PC is here, just waiting for a pc case.

And then we can go and install it all.
And improve the editing.

Although I have spend more then 3 hours recently on a 30sec intro.
Mainly because I wanted to see if I could make it happen, and how Davinci would work ;)

Awesome!

I can say I've done the same - spent time to see IF I could do something... lots of hours spent trying to figure things out.

Haha... same... but we make time for the things we want to! :)
So you are suggesting editing on the toilet would be ok?

Seriously though, I am editing today while waiting for my father-in-law to get out of surgery. I would feel weird but my brother-in-law is teleworking in the same room while we wait.

Yeah, and because it was an older idea I had a good idea of what I wanted.
I'm quite happy with the result as well.
Still some improvements to do of course, but happy. :)

That's kind of what I'm doing now - just jotting down ideas for when I'm caught up. I'm also riding just as much but recording FAR less, so when I AM caught up, I can record the topics in my list.

It's a dual-edge sword though - when I get close to catching up, I get in a panic as to "what's next???"
I have an Excel spreadsheet I keep with all of my planned future motovlog ideas with many fields per entry for things like location, distance from home, date I film it, and then date I post it to YT Studio where I mark if off as "complete".

I've always been an organizer like this, comes from my engineering background possibly. It helps me keep track of motovlog ideas so if I ever need something to film I just go to my spreadsheet and pick something out of the list! :D

You and I think alike - I think I've mentioned it here, but I have a similar spreadsheet setup for what to do next.

It takes some of the pressure off when I WANT to record.
