What Mic & Camera setup are you running?

ShiftQuick

Focused. Out here just livin’ it.
I currently use the GoPro Media Mod on the Hero 11. Although the mic is good at average speaking volume, if I speak up, laugh, or compensate because of wind noise it tends to clip.

I’d like to get buttery smooth audio and I just don’t know if the setup I have is capable of capturing that kind of quality.

Mind sharing a link or clip so I can hear your setup as well?

Just take a look at any of the members content, no need for people to post links to their videos here. I have found the cheaper mics work far better than the expensive ones in our use as they are less sensitive so don't clip as much.
This is the mic I use on a Hero 10. I don't run the Media Mod though, I use the old GoPro Microphone Adapter from the 5/6/7.

I've only just started out in the last couple of weeks, so running with quite a basic low cost load out. Bought the akaso brave 6 plus and an akaso external mic just based off of watching someone else with it, with each video I'm making the audio quality is getting better each time (still not any where near where I want it yet) but I have also recently ordered a wind muff for the mic in my helmet which I'm hoping may help, and I'm constantly finding new things that help in my editing software. I'm a basic bitch so I'm using filmora wondershare until I properly get into the swing of the whole motovlogging.
I want to try a different mic but all the research I've done suggest you can only use the akaso mic with the brave 6 plus

I've been using Filmora Wondershare for 6 years as a motovlogger, and then possibly another 2-3 years previously on my old airsoft channel. Cracking software, very simple to use and learn... plus has many features of far more expensive editing software too! :-)

I was using Sony ECM with my Hero 4 Silvers but when I went to the Hero 8 black I got the "pop" happen a lot. So I went to the Purple Panda. Occasionally I still have to go through the audio compression but it is not as bad.

Ah, well now I don't feel bad for using it!, thought I'd get scolded for it as it seems so easy to just plug and play haha

Filmora is really stepping on their crank right now, with the cancelation of lifetime licenses... and their half-hearted attempt to walk that back. Just FYI.

For mic, I use a Purple Panda, plugged into the Media Mod on whatever helmet cam I'm using [currently a Hero 10].

You can listen to any of my videos for the audio fidelity, but just know that it's gone through both Alex Audio Butler and Clarity Vx, audio plugins that do my mixing [AAB] and voice isolation [Clarity]. I don't put out videos that don't use them - I want that nice audio too :D

Just checked your channel out, that's exactly the audio quality I want to eventually be pushing out, seems I have a lot to learn still
Thanks! I've got in-depth videos on all the stuff I use, so the learning process won't be as long or tedious as mine :D

Sweet, that's useful to know, I had a quick look at the audio software you mentioned - I will deffo search through your channel for your vids on them as that does seem to be where I struggle the most at the moment!

Hopefully I remembered to add all the pertinent videos in the right playlists - Davinci Resolve Tutorials should be where all the editing stuff is. The Motovlog Gear Setup playlist is all the gear.

Worth using an inline volume control adapter like from the Shure kit.

1.5 turns from the min setting of the exposed part of the control wheel will do *fiddles in Dumbledore*

I used a similar thing with my old RODE Wireless Go mic when I tried using that for my helmet camera audio, worked great, although I gave up on the setup in the end as was too much of a faff turning everything on lol :D

More and more often these days I'm seeing vloggers complaining about the new GoPros. Many are coming out and vowing to stop using them at all. Apparently the newer ones have been having a lot of problems with crashing, shutting down, killing batteries, sound clipping and such. I personally have only had minor issues with my Hero7 which by today's standards is an older model, but looking into the future when it's time for me to upgrade my camera, I'm not so sure I'm going to go with GoPro's newer models.

The other thing I've been looking at, and I'm quite behind on this, is a 360 camera, but again, GoPro makes one but it gets bad reviews compared to the X2. I'm thinking if I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a new camera, it will probably be a 360 camera to get decent back-facing panoramic views as well as being able to show the scenery without craning my neck.

Other than that I have been using a simple Hero7 Silver for the "selfie" camera on a stick to walk around when I get off the bike, but the Silver doesn't have removable battery and wont work with my microphone so cannot be used on the helmet. I also have a DJI gimbal hand held which is nice for walking around too, but I haven't been using it as much because it's a lot more gear I have to pack in the bike.

Yep, GoPro has been crapping the bed with new releases and firmware updates, and it's frustrating. I've got workarounds and techniques for avoiding the issues with my 9 and 10, but haven't bought an 11. Between not needing one and the issues with newer GoPros, I'm gun-shy.

Get the 360 camera. I saw recently that Insta360 added stabilization to the export, so it works well whether you use their Studio app or an external editor to work with your footage, which brings it up to speed IMO with the GoPro Max... but the Max IMO still has better color. I'm also in the GoPro ecosystem with their remote, so I haven't ventured away from the brand.
