Cheap and best motovlogging setup

Hello everyone,
Hope all of you are happy and enjoy you life.
I am looking for a cheap and best motovlogging set up. Please suggest.

I still use two Hero4 Silvers. Been running one since almost day one and it meets my needs.

The mic adapters from GoPro are getting scarce though.

I started out using the camera (ActiveOn CX HD Camera). I dont know if I'd still recommend it, at the time I had paid $50 USD and it came with 2 action camera mounts and a waterproof case. Nowadays I'd recommend finding something that can handle 1080p at 30fps and 720p at 60fps. Reason being that they're not going to be overly expensive, audio is worth investing more into. If you're just starting out you can get by using a phone with a voice record app along with a cheap microphone, just make sure you wrap it in some deadcat to buffer out some of the wind noise.

I agree with others, I run a Hero 4 Silver and recently nabbed a second one - used once with all official gopro accessories still sealed for £62! My best advise is to keep an eye on Ebay and you will get a bargain if you look hard enough.

In addition to this, there are countless other 'budget' cameras out there which are very cheap and some are surprisingly good. I'm going to be uploading a comparison video shortly comparing the Hero 4 Silver to a budget camera I got over the holidays to see if you really can rely on cheaper equipment.

For sound I dont think you can simply 'cheap out'.. the gopro mic adapters are extortionate to be frank, and an external recorder would probably set you back just as much. Albeit being more useful as you can use an external recorder in other applications. My best advice here is to get entry level equipment like an adapter which may be expensive but will be vital in producing good quality videos.

Gopro Hero 4 does seem to be an old favourite. From experience I have went down the route of buying cheap, and honestly it ain't worth it. A lot of the knock off brands advertise 1080p etc but its all crap.

That being said buy what you can comfortably afford.

Figured I'd resurrect this thread instead of starting another one with the same questions. I thought the GoPro hero4 silver didn't work with external mics? What do you do to keep it waterproof? I'm not adverse to riding in the rain, mostly because of how short the riding season is up here, so I want to be able to record in the rain. I was thinking of using my phone to record voice and link it with the video later.
Also, what editing software do people use?

I use Filmora Wondershare, really user friendly and simple to use, and not too expensive... or at least wasn't when I got my copy.
I;ve no experience of GoPros prior to the 5 so not sure on tech specs of the 4, although so many people still use the 4 so it must be pretty good. Not sure if that is the silver or black though?

Found a lost of gopros with mic support. Looks like 4 got the most love among them.

Does the GoPro save the video if the battery is about to die and you're in the middle of recording?

GoPro with external microphone support
Hero7 black
Hero6 black
Hero5 black
Hero5 session
Hero4 black and silver
Hero3+ black
Hero3 black

I use the TomTom Bandit action camera, discontinued now so you can get them fairly cheap, I got 2 for £30 and £50. There waterproof with mic connection at back but you do need the mic lead. They also have about 3 hours battery life.

That looks like a nice option. They're only $225 used here. I had follow-up questions but not at that price, lol

What are the specs on that?

I find, second hand, GoPro's tend to hold their value a little too well, so i'd go for a Sony Action Camera instead.

A bonus with the Sony cameras is that they have a 3.5mm port on them so you don't need an adaptor for a micophone.

Do you know what bitrate the 1080/60 is recording at?
If I understand correctly in slow motion mode video is recorded at x2, x4, or x8 of the normal frame rate but saved at normal frame rate (30 fps) for playback which results in a slow motion video. You can find out all you need on line.
