Why Don't Many Girls Ride?

Based on what statistics?

Yes female riders is way less than males, that's a fact

However a lot of females, and increasing numbers are slipping 50s/125s and moving straight to the 'proper bikes'

I do marketing for a well known dealer and I also train CBTS in the UK, out of every male that does the CBT they'll often do one or two courses (before taking a test) but compared to a female who will most often do the CBT as part as getting their proper licence which shows they do not just like groms and Vespas I.e it's actually a sexist comment, without fact. I've also seen sales data that compares new male and female riders, over 80% of females jump to a big bike where as a male will often burn out their 50/125s before upgrading. I not only own this site but I run a few Facebook groups and often at race tracks etc... I see a lot of 'bikers' in all shapes and sizes

Would be good to see the statistics of females preferring Vespas ha because that's not statistics, it's opinion. The opinion that women love beetles over everything else, it's bollocks

It's like saying all men love football and beer... Opinion, not fact

If the opinion that aesthetics and marketing to cater to women is sexist, then the other comments here and on other places like reddit that say that women don't ride because they are afraid they can't handle a bike on their own is even more so.

I am merely laying the blame for this phenomena primarily on the marketing department's failure to provide what women want, not on the women themselves.

I love the way it's all guys in here discussing what women want in a motorcycle. How about we get some women in here and we ask them?

That's the way it usually goes on internet forums. lol Then the women weigh in at some point and give their actual opinions and the men mansplain to them why their opinions are wrong. Then the men wonder why women aren't more active on the forum. Hahaha!

yeh i dont think the bike choice is statistical as i know some from little 125s to bmw s1000s

my mum sister and aunt all ride. but we are a biker family

Bro, that's pretty sweet. My mom used to ride (I think it was a Harley, idk) and my aunt has a rebel that she's barely touched, and one of my uncles used to ride but his wife made him quit. Really there's only me and one of my uncles that ride now :/

I know several women that ride (aside from some of the ladies on here). There were several of them in a club I helped start back in 2004 or so. They ride just as well as the guys in the club. I used to work with one lady who drag raced bikes. She was good at it, too. There's a couple of girls I know also who got their license just so they could ride with their husbands and be part of the fun, rather than always sitting on the back. The female rider population is growing. According to a recent study, females make up 14% of motorcycle riders.

Well it needs be more like 41% rather than 14%

girls don't ride as much because motorcycles have typically marketed towards men, as a "man thing" and also a lot of men are really hostile or really brazen in approaching females that ride. Women who ride, in my exp, get a LOT of attention, and not all of it good.

If they really get into it, men start saying shit about them, starting rumors. It's a real pain in the ass, and I can totally understand why many women don't wanna hang out in the moto scene.

That being said, I know some lesbians that ride that meet the misogyny with an equal amount of shit talking back to the dudes who talk down to them.

The worst thing in the world is the "mainsplaining" i see being done to women that have been riding longer than even I have. "oh that bike is cute. When are you gonna get a real bike?" type stuff....

also so much womens gear is frou frou flowers and shit. My lady prefers black on black on black ninja style, and thinks all of that looks dumb (meanwhile I like suomy helmets and shit. we're a pretty atypical role reversal relationship though)

Easy solution: anyone who talks down or harasses female riders gets punched in the mouth. Its cool that your girl rides, I'm jealous

They probably are able to jump to bigger bikes so quick because they won't crank the throttle so hard it'll knock you on your ass like guys do haha

I think it will get there eventually. It's just a matter of time. Things change for lots of reasons. For example, 40 years ago there were very few female Funeral Directors. It was traditionally a male profession and most of the time you saw women in funeral homes mainly as secretaries or personal assistants. Now it's about half and half. Totally unrelated to motorcycles but it shows how traditions can change over time.

It also shows that people are less tolerant of sexism.
I agree, if any female shows interest in a male dominated field, we should punch anyone in the mouth who tries to stop discourage or mock them.

Most that I know of are either riding to be in the scene, to be under the spotlight, to grab attention of the male bikers. There are some (very very small amount) that ride because they are passionate about it, you can tell from the way they keep a low profile, not about being in the glamour scene.

I don't really care too much from what I see most aren't that eye candy anyways, of course there are a couple of them that are hot, but you damn well know those are all being creep on by the guys already.

To be relevant to your topic, over here the number of lady bikers (that's the term they use here) is on the rise, and I mean for the 250cc above ones, mopeds don't count. The rise is mainly because riding superbikes is deemed the new trend now.

Sometimes I wish that superbikes weren't becoming more affordable so that it's not a trend. Not because for my selfish reasons, most of these trend chasers don't know this is a dangerous hobby. Oh well.

LoL.

I'm strangely comfortable with that idea.
