I'm just wondering what some of you guys are using?
Also let me know your experiences if you tested different codecs/settings.

Recently I've been using this for encoding videos for YT and I'm pretty happy with it.
Res = 1280x720
Codec = WMV9
Variable Bitrate = 5Mbps - 5.8Mbps
FPS = 29.97

My ContourHD1080 records at
Res = 1280x720
Codec = MOV - H.264
Variable Bitrate = 8.5Mbps
FPS = 29.97

The same but 8 - 10 on the bitrates.

Im still playing with the settings and with CS6 now on my machine it may be time to try some new codecs (DivX etc)

That's the same as what I render in, it's sufficient quality for YouTube. There's not really much point in uploading higher quality video seen as YouTube's processing system caps the quality for 1280x720 video at about 2mbps.

I read it on this site http://webvideotechniques.com/123/bigger-and-better-encoding-for-youtube-hd a while back when I was trying to find out more about YouTube's quality limits.

YouTube HD Specs

I downloaded a few YouTube HD videos (Using the Firefox extension DownloadHelper) and used MediaInfo to peek under the hood to find out all the juicy technical details. I have seen many sites speculate on the data rates and resolution of the new format but few are reporting accurate information.

Video

1280×720 at 29.97 progressive (other framereates like 24, 25, 30 should work as well)
H.264 codec in MP4 wrapper
Variable bit rate averaging 2mpbs

H264 Codec
720P at 15Mbits Per second
30fps

i edit and save the video in the same Bit format the video was recorded in.

as for 1080P its
30fps
20Mbits per second

Ok mine is tricky as i use to cameras

If i upload a video were i have used both cams, its only going to be 720P

If its just 1 camera its 720P or 1080P depending on cam,

so the list goes

2 cams- both
720P @ 8.12Mbits/s 30fps. .mov with H264 container

1 cam - drift
720P @ 8.12Mbits/s 30fps. .mov with H264 container

1 cam Gpro
NON PROTUNE - 1080P @15.6Mbit/s - 30Fps. .mov with H264 container

PROTUNE - 1080P @36.6Mbit/s - 30Fps. .mov with H264 container

Protune on the gopro records at 36.6 Mbit/s - thats 3 times the quality of the drift @ the same res.

hope this helps.
