I did a review on the ninja 1000 and I think that bike or something similar would be my pick. The reason is, in my case what I would want out of a sport tourer would be to ride from Minnesota to say deals gap and then enjoy having a sportbike at my destination. So the ninja 1000 would be my pick because it's more comfortable than my zx6r, but still sporty.
If I was just sight seeing or taking my wife along, I'd want a concours or beemer, etc. (The large sport tourers). Since I'll probably never afford 3 or more bikes I'll take the sportier option every time. At least while my body holds up.
So it boils down to, what trip do you immediately envision when you hear "what is the best touring bike?"
