We miss something like this (concept)

Hi there, I am in no way trying to commercialise something, but this just came in my mind while browsing for external gopro Hero 7 battery power.
Almost all of these stupid power extenders use the USB port which some of the motovloggers use for the mic input, rendering the camera only useable for video, but useless for high quality audio.

I came up with a simple idea which probably no other company had thought about, here's a scratch idea:

The current gopro battery is only 1220mAh which is chump change for what I'm trying to make clear. that is nothing compared to what I need/want (10k mAh is maybe a little too much)
The concept is the same as a DSLR battery grip, but more on a "compact" basis like a gopro. I think how hard can it be? Just disect an old gopro battery to get the connections and the circuit board, 3d print an enclosure and voilà, you have a battery "grip".
It in fact not adds an extra battery, but replaces the battery altogether so to speak.

It just infuriates me that companies never take in mind other needs of the camera. They think the usb port is only there for charging. Take a look at this:

I mean, where do you plug in your cables? The USB C port is totally obscured and there's still a stupid teeny weeny 1220mAh inside the gopro itself. It will constantly charge while discharging, making it quite hot on warm days.

Anyone thoughts?

With the mic adaptor fitted, you can run power to the mic adaptor still as it has a USB-C socket on it. Sadly the GoPro Hero 7 Black does not like being charged while it is recording so it is pretty useless in that configuration. I had heard that GoPro have some way of stopping aftermarket batteries working in their cameras, so this could pose a problem with your example. It is a great concept though. I just wish that GoPro would sort it so we can charge while recording, as the 8 is also unable to do that. I can run my Hero 5 sessions all day long as I can plug in a powerbank to it through the mic adaptor and it stays full of juice!

This is one of the reasons I like the Drift Ghost (apart from I can't afford anything new).
You plug your mic into the mic socket and powerbank into the charging socket.

Although I just carry spare batteries and change them at brew stops etc.

This. I think this answers the original gripe (if I can call it that) about GoPro compartmentalising. A big element of that is doing one thing and doing it well, which is what I’ll call a “friendly” business strategy, but the other side of it is based around control and manipulation for a strategic advantage.

Welll... My Sony AS300V has a micro usb plug where I just could plug in a 10.000mAh (or so) powerbank. The 128gb card was full after a full day of riding and the battery was nowhere near empty.
The problem is offcourse that front mounting a cam like that is practically impossible because of the formfactor (just like the Drift).
Drift & Sony do this very good, but GoPro seems to lack the know-how to keep functions like that.
Granted they have great image quality and a compact formfactor, but that compactness also has a very big flaw, in the form of the little battery.

I came up with this idea also because the original battery of my GoPro doesn't hold a charge anymore, whereas the fake ones keep their charge pretty well with juice to spare.

Yeah, mean reason why i don't bought a GoPro at certain times.

I want to hang the drift on a powerbank and use a mic at the same time.
Seems so easy, yet for some brands it can be troublesome.

Hmmm, it also seems the cold is the culprit of getting bad battery life.
I couldn't handle it anymore and bought an anker powercore with powerdelivery. 3A charging, and a usb cable with a built in "charge" led so the powerbank won't shut off on itself.
Will ad a lot of bulk back to the helmet, but hey, I hope this will be better than changing batteries every 30 minutes...

Sugru is such a lifesaver, and so good!
Got the Anker powerbank in the mail, and tested the charging while recording. Seems like the update on the GoPro 7 did make a difference on audio syncing issues.
Made a coiled cable to keep my helmet "flippable" because modular helmets are something else when motovlogging with front-mount cameras. I'll put up a picture of my creation somewhere and sometime tomorrow, but it doesn't look particularly nice.

It's a great idea and would save having wires trailing off to powerbanks or USB sockets however as @HippoDrone says think some manufacturers have worked out ways to either stop after market batteries working or at least deminish their performance.
