Using The Name Of A Bigger Channel As A Tag

Since I've started doing videos, I've installed tubeBuddy and as a result I can see the tags of every video. As a result I've started noticing that many (if not all) of the fast growing channels use bigger channel names as a tag.

example: Lets say I make video and use :joego101, doitwithdan, walteriffic etc as an additional tag.

This will probably bring some traffic my way, but isn't it against TOS and why doesn't youtube ban such channels and can they even notice you using these types of tags?

Have you guys used this grayish tactic?

Seems a bit clickbaity, but hey that also seems to work for people these days :( Lol someone should tag a massive Youtuber, thats completely not related to bikes and see if that drives up views?

Pewdiepie's audience is not my target audience ;). But let's say c2w seem like a target. still I'd rather not go that route. Its not a click bait as most people don't see the tags, but I believe its not the proper way to do it :).

I'm curious which city in Bulgaria are you located in?

In case you haven't noticed Youtube is a cesspool of self promotion, cross promotion, click bait, and stealing others ideas.

I don't see a problem with this. All its going to do at the most is get one of your videos to show as a suggested video on the site.

If your channel is relevant to the viewer then where is the problem, we're all out there trying to get discovered so if it works go for it.

This is the fundamental problem with YouTube now.
It used to be a place for people to show videos to share with friends or like minded viewers.

Over the last few years its become too commercialised where money is dominant.

Interesting videos are getting buried and popular clickbait is promoted.

Agreed. I saw a medium sized motovlogger say that if he makes a slightly clickbaity title, he instantly gets 5 times more views, compared if his video was just normal titled. So its a weird situation.

If you want to talk about it being legally (by YT ToS), then no, having non-related tags is a no-no.

Does that mean you can't do it? No, it means you shouldn't do it, but if you wanted to do it, you still can, just don't complain IF YT takes some action on your channel or videos later, you never know when or if they might suddenly start a witch-hunt.

I can't comment about the "big players" if they are cross-promoting or what-not, or if they are immune to any action from YT or not, but I would like to point out that, putting false tags/title/information is not just about against YT ToS policy, but it also effects their data, which they use to present/promote to their clients in turn ultimately determines if they get the ad contract or not, so, I feel that if they do suddenly take action, it's probably when the issue becomes too rampant and messing with their data till the customer/client starts complaining and they need to clean the crap up.

Remember their move to only allow monetization only after you have 1k subs? It was most likely business motivated and trying to improve their data so that client ads run on more visible videos or etc.

It might not happen, it might take a while, but if you are having such practices of purposely false tagging, it may one day bite you.

I have no proof or evidence to back any of this up though.

Gotta fight dirty to stay afloat in this game dude. Try a bunch of things and see what works

Totally agree on that one. The days are gone of just making it because you make decent content. You need to use whatever you can to your advantage.

Ill try this trick with my next MV, basically in Mexico most of Motovloggers are greedy, so ill take some of their greed against them

I'll be honest, this trick doesn't work. At least not without some critical mass on your channel. If everybody is using another popular Youtuber's name in the tags, then there is a huge competition to stay in the related videos corner.

In the end, only the biggest player here will win, not you. You are better off tagging against yourself, for example I tag my own channel name on all my videos so when a person watches one of my videos they are almost always directed to another of my own videos than someone else's.

Deffinatley sounds you could have an experiment on your hands. As you said it dosen't breech the tos and the video has relevants with the tags then as far as amware go for it.

Don't know then. Don't really get what the tags do but I do know if you use certain tags than the video is instanly flagged
Tags have been deprecated for years now. Don't bother tagging unless it's to tag words that have not been used by anyone except you.
