Uploading to Youtube

So how long does it take to upload your 1080p videos to youtube say about 8 minutes long? It seems to take forever for me to upload videos. It probably takes about 2 or 3 hours. I just wanted to know if this was normal? Or is this just my slow internet connection?

Yes it's normal, and yes it's your slow internet connection. I spent a few hours uploading a 12 minute 720p video just recently. I only have like 4mbps upload connection, so my connection is pretty slow as well.

overnight uploads ftw!!!!

i can render and upload a 7 minute video in about 5 hours!! woo go to bed one night. wake up for work and find it done :)

It takes me 20ish minutes to render 4 minute 1080p video and then <20 to upload it, I render as WMV 8MB

2-3 mins... sorry I know you hate me ;) But yea on a average connection and depending on time of day hours is kinda normal.

Yeah, your right.. I do hate you  ;)

I upload in 720p and my video is 8mbps encoded. My vlogs usually take around an hour each to upload for ~8 minutes of footage, the short clips 15 minutes or so.

I usually have more editing to do during uploads, so that time doesn't get spent waiting for uploads.

I have 100 up 100 down fibre.

I can render and upload in real time. 10min vid, 10 mins to render, 10 mins to upload.

Of course the render time is dependant on the power of your pc.

And the upload on the up speed of your ISP

My upload speed currently is 0.32Mbps! Takes me 5 hours to upload a 4 minute video. Yeah! People better vote Kevin Rudd tomorrow!

I take about 110-150% of the video's lenght (meaning, 10 min videos are encoded in 11-15 mins).
Then, uploading at 10MBPS takes about 45mins, for a 10 min video (3.2 Gigs).
Yesterday I uploaded a much smaller vid (lower bitrate), took about 25mins (dropped the bitrate from 45'000 to 28'000).

Thing is, I encode with Vegas12, and take advantage of my HUGE graphics card to encode, so I achieve near real-time encoding.

First-World-Vlogger problems:

My computer encodes so fast, I cant have dinner while I wait.

Depends on your computer, internet connection and Youtube's activity as to how long it takes to get your video online. From starting encoding to being available on Youtube in 1080p a 10 minute video took me about an hour yesterday. 20 mins to encode, 10 mins to upload (~800MB) and 30 minutes for youtube to process it.

It takes 10 times the length of the video. 6 minutes vid, 60 minutes upload. 768kbit/s upload speed.
Overnight uploads are fine, until your computer decides it's too tired and goes to sleep. It's funny waking up the next morning with the orange LED on front and 5% uploaded.

I upload it overnight. Never know how long exactly since upload speed is really slow. But does YouTube come with "Shut down after upload finished" feature? Hahaha :P

I had fibre fitted the other day, Wow I can upload a 8-13 minute 1080 video in ten minutes lol

Love it

upload is pretty fast here in Japan, but its not just the "slow" connection.
I know that in Germany for example people complain about upload limitations even tho they have a fairly decent connection with like 10-20 mbit

i ve never uploaded for as long as they tell me. but i edit on a slow ass laptop so render speed is pretty bad
but i keep to under 10 min vids now and try to limit files to around 500mb (1080p)

I usually just set and forget and go about doing other things while the video uploads in the background.
