To earplug or not to earplug

As an engineer I have access to boxes of plugs. I treat them as single use. I never understand why people use and reuse plugs for months. It's the fastest way to getting an ear infection!

Just incase anyone was curious about the plugs i am currently using that i was referring to in my video.....

They are Proguard Noizzez green

They actually fit perfectly in my lugs!

yeah, those are the single use cheap ones that you get in factories and other work places, I used to get those at work. You can get quite a few that are washable and re-usable, either the foam ones or the solid ones.

Never had an issue wearing them several times and then chucking them!

I've always been a fan of riding with ear plugs in, does not inhibit your senses and other noises whatsoever. You can still hear emergency sirens easily and protect your ears at the same time.

What are those earplugs that are custom made like?

My mate who has spend best part of £120 on some custome made ones says they are brilliant and has had them for some years now, i just can justify the initial outlay on them tbh

You can also buy the custom fitted earplugs that have earphones built in. Those are what I really want, like what you see the racing drivers take out after they pull off their fire hoods. Unfortunately the cheapest, well-reviewed ones I've ever seen were $350.

I'm too afraid of being pulled over and getting a ticket for wearing earphones while riding to do it most of the time. I'm pretty sure it's technically illegal in my state.

( sometimes I do it anyway! :X )

Find a cop and ask, they're generally pretty nice people, that's all I did. They told me that it's not directly illegal, but if you're involved in a wreck and wearing headphones they can cite you (and assign some fault) for being a distracted motorist. Earplugs, on the other hand, are completely legal as they help you concentrate on whats going on without being distracted by wind noise and buffeting.

It probably should be... but saying that might send this off on a bit of a tangent... :|

I never wear ear plugs, cannot stand them. I think that I have small weird shaped ears because when my wife wears hers, she says they block out all noise pretty much. But I can never get them in far enough to block out much and then they fall out easily. I have tried lots of different types over the years, never with any luck, so i just do not bother any more.

I ride with a friend who swears by them while riding though. He never rides without them, we communicate via headsets and he can still hear me perfectly with them in. Got me beat!

I saw a stand at the motorcycle show last year where they mould ear plugs to the shape of your ear right there and then. I might have to go back again this year and try them. If they do not work, then I will give up trying forever!

Welsh? Haha, I'm not Welsh, I was born in London. But I'll drop you a PM right now :P

I use in ear headphones instead, for me it has the same effect. When riding with my bro they connect to the radio gear, if not riding, usually not connected to anything, sometimes connected to Bluetooth unit if I'm expecting an important call
