Things You Won’t Do While Vlogging

Hmm, i never thought about this, I do it all the time! with a gopro its no more unsafe then letting your hands rest for a min

is it as dangerous as talking to a passenger in a car you are driving? :)
But when you're talking while driving in a car or even over the headphones on a motorcycle, you are relaxed, you go thru a lot of stalling, uhh's umm's, errors and whatnot. With blogs you're concentrating on what you're saying and what points you need to remember and how you shouldn't go all 'hurr durr' and whatnot. It's a little different. I'd say vlogging like that in a car would also be pretty distracting.

Add this to a downtown riding instead of highways and you have two options: either talk or pay attention to traffic/lights/signs

I tend to edit out my umms and errs lol but get your point. I guess my vlogging style currently doesn't need so much concentration as I have a conversation with the camera rather than try to teach it or remember a script. Does mean my convos are all over the place though!

I Agree. So I havent made any vlog yet, but Im actually practicing for when Im finally able to do so (I dont have any proper mic set up yet). I find it hard to stay focused on both the road and the topic that im trying to vlog. I ended up missing a turn or two on my trip while doing so, haha. Then again Im just bad at speaking in general, let alone doing it while riding.

I don't worry about turning my camera on and off. I have the GoPro Hero4 Black and I have the one button power on and record setting on. I hit the button and listen for the beeps to tell me its started!

I cant listen to the beeps clearly though. Where do you mount your gopro?

I can usually hear mine, but I usually turn it on when I'm sitting still because my winter gloves are thick and it's hard to find the button. Don't want to be fumbling for it at speed.

If I need to check whether or not I'm recording, I just lean over and look for the blinking red light in my rearview mirror. This is easier in a clear case, but I suppose you could see if the record timer is going up if you had a case that only showed the screen through.

I think motovlogging in it's essense (most people define as talking while riding), to be very dangerous, and that's why most of my videos are not doing as such.

i think talking while riding to be very distracting and unsafe
If you feel you aren't able to do both (talk and ride), drop the talking and focus on the riding, that is the sensible way. Some people (not myself) are naturals are talking to themselves, so they can do it fairly easily. But yes, it is rather distracting but always focus on the riding..

Sometimes I think it also depends on the stuff you're talking about. For me, if I'm talking about some riding topic while riding, it's easier, compared to me talking about, politics for example, while riding, which is like two different things to do.

End of the day, we should know our limits and play within it, after all motovlogging should be fun and not a chore. :)

I've never had any problem talking and riding. May be because I'm a teaching so speaking outlaid is something I do nearly everyday. My wive and I have been riding together for years too, where we speak all the time. I've never found it distracting,
or fallen into situations where I lose my focus or concentration.

I think I've come to a point where I kind of miss it if I'm not vlogging. Makes the ride a little too quiet or lonely if I'm not. Might have a mental illness or something :(

You could always get a power bank to plug into the camera so long as it isn't raining. Also get a bigger card. I don't see it being a huge deal pulling off the side of the road. I don't know why a cop would be so concerned. Personally, I would just tell him that I needed to do so because it is essentially my dash cam for my safety.

On a road, that's true, but I did it on a major freeway which essential is illegal, least accordion to the State Trooper who pulled up behind me. His advice was to pull over into a rest stop for any changes or camera adjustments. Easier said than done. From that point on I would turn my camera on and off while riding. Not, smart, but I also wanted to get home before dark, or when the deer would start to come out.

I noticed when Chase did his last helmet build he included a battery pack on the back for a camera.

I've been thinking about doing it myself lately, just need a really small pack I think.
