As per the Subject - do you edit out your speedo or leave it as is?

I'm sure the police have better things to do that trawl through youtube finding videos of people hauling butt, but would you trust that they don't?

Easier option than going through footage and editing it all. Don't speed and vlog. Yeah, I speed occasionally. But I don't put it on YouTube. That's just asking for trouble!

Not necessarily.

I generally don't speed excessively no matter where I am or what vehicle I am using. In the many years I've been riding I've only ever been given 1 speeding ticket, but passed hundreds of cops. I don't have any reason to blur anything in my videos. :)

Just do what Ghost rider did, use a yellowbox to give the speedo 50% error... That way it looks super fast.

Don't speed is the best thing, if you do don't post it. Its an easy bust for someone wanting to earn some brownie points.

Failing that tracking software can blur parts of your video or a crafty zoom here and there.

Highly doubful you'd ever get done for 'speeding' from video footage. There are far too many variables - did you change the sprockets? Was the speedo reading correctly? Was the footage edited?

Reckless or Dangerous Driving, however, they could make stick. Or even a nice easy ASBO order. If it's just footage of your bike these ae also hard to get to prosecution (who's riding?), but if you're actually vlogging all about yourself and what you're doing, then it makes it all much easier.

I try to position my cameras so you can't see the speedo.

I genuinely thought this was a thread about tight swimwear. I am sorely disappointed.

On topic: No, never have done. If you honestly think the police couldn't work out the time it takes you to go past two separate objects to get your speed then I believe you are what's called 'stupid'.

But the camera lies like a beech

They'd need to see the raw footage to make sure you haven't spedup or slowed down your footage when editing.

That's what I put on my disclaimer anyway... ;)

As I said - a few points for speeding is the least of your worries. They wouldn't bother trying to pin that one on you. ;)

We put videos out on youtube, where the audience is mostly young riders who are very impressionable so personally I think anyone who needs to edit their speedo on a regular basis is not setting a safe example. If you want to ride fast, don't put it on YouTube.

Leave it as is,shows us that your video is legit and the possibly fun way you ride,I never remove the speedo even with the videos I have on YT and with speeds in excess of 100MPH,I don't worry nor care really...Just got a ticket 2 months ago for 95 in a 45MPH zone, ticket was $710....Shit happens man...

The thing is that we live in UK and here people went to jail from YouTube videos, I believe that one man record a video of going over 130 miles and then uploaded it.

oh and here you also get points for speeding and if you gone have 12 (I think) you lose your licence...

So you can't be too careful...

I was equally as distraught.

Yup - it's generally 12 but you only have 6 within the first 2 years of receiving your pink license.

Points last for 5 years too.

95 in a 45 in the UK would probably be a ban for 18-24 months.
Anythng more than 1.5x the speed zone and you'll get a ban.

They seem to be a bit more strict in the UK than in the US?

That said, I've also heard that Switserland is worse. Theu come down really really tough on anyone even a little over the speed limit.

Unfortunately you've got to work pretty hard to lose your license in the U.S. It varies, greatly, from state to state though. Every little jurisdiction has their own rules, and in some places doubling the speed limit can be punished by immediate jail time. It's a pretty complicated issue and you can never apply any one "punishment" to everywhere in the US. Some places don't really care how fast you go, others will hand you a $500 fine for going 6mph over. Just depends on the local government.

In Australia, anything more than 30kph over the limit can be classed as "hooning". 3 Hoon offences and they crush your car at a scrap yard. And its not an idle threat, its been done!
