Hey there put one of my videos into vegas and the video preview in the top right is really laggy anyone know why? It cant be my pc because ive got a gaming pc.. which has a 6 core processor and 8GB RAM
Im using Vegas Pro 12

Don't worry about it :) once you render the video it should be fine.

You could try changing the quality of the review, I have vegas 11 and above the preview window its says "Best", click on the word there and then you can choose from 4 options, mine has "Draft", "Preview", "Good" and "Best", then you should have 4 more options for each of the levels: Auto (should be smoothest at all times), full (high quality preview but sometimes can be a bit laggy) and half or quarter(low quality preview)

It could be your graphics card being slow. Try pausing and see what happens

Works for me with adobe

Thanks Ill give that a try

Vegas 12 is optimized for GPU operation... Well I read that somewhere . So if your graphics card is good I think it's a setting you change or something that allows it to make full use of your GPU. But I also agree about putting in a lower quality preview just my 2 cents

I notice this for when I have the preview quality set too high, if I lower the quality of the preview it goes away. I suppose it doesn't matter since you never get the same quality once its up on YT

I saw the 'Lag post', Boy do i have Lag!!
But mine is Quad/4Gram/Nvid GTS8800....Old+slow.

I "got the lag". It only appears in vegas 12, if I am vieweing 2.7k video OR 1080p60fps.
And it doenst make an ounce of difference if I put in low quality / quarter size. Its always "jumpy" and choppy.

The reason is a bug with the vegas12 64bit version.
unfortunatly, the ...erm.... "free" version only comes as 64bit. My vegas 10 32 bit works like a charm, so I do initial editing there, then open the project in vegas 12 for the last touches and encoding (when I am using 60fps video or 2.7k).

Got Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0 today. Anybody got any good tips with this programme? Basic to start would be good as I'm only just getting familiar with it.

I have Movie studio 12 but this short cuts should be the same:
S- split, very useful :)
Ctrl - if you hold it and point you mouse to the edge of you clip and then drag the clip out or in, to slow down of speed up the video
Ctrl - click and select few clips and click "G", now the clips are grouped together and you can move the anywhere on the timeline,
U - to ungroup / remove from group

by clip I mean anything on any track and with in the time line (box), music/audio, video, images, text...

Excellent! Thanks for the tips!

I used to get ridiculous amounts of lag on my second laptop. it has an i7 and 4gb ram with 1gb dedicated graphics. Surprisingly my little alienware with an i3 and an older graphics card handles it better but it does have 8gb ram.

Are you running any other programs at the same time as editing?

Firefox is on in the background and I've a Word Document but that's it. 30 mins into rendering and 37% completed. Still nowhere near mastering this programme but its 1 million times improved on what I was using before.
