Selecting Thumbnails On Youtube

Gday all,
So with selecting thumbnails for YT videos, in video manager on YT, I seam to get three random thumbnails to chose from. Is this correct or is there a way to adjust what thumbnails appear that I can chose from?

I see on other peoples channels they have the topic of their vlog / title screen as the thumbnail for their videos and I would like to do this because the three videos I have up so far have different thumbnails and look a little unorgainized compared to others.

Click custom thumbnail at the bottom of the three random ones. If the option is not there, you need to enable it in your youtube settings.

Yup, YT only gives you three it chooses, if you want anything else, you need to supply your own. You can screenshot your videos in VLC Player of that helps, just in the Video menu I think.

I take a snapshot of the video in vlc,
then add text in paint/photoshop/gimp

I then upload it by using the customer button

If I'm not mistaken, you only get to upload custom thumbnail after you've reached a certain amount of views/subs or have a certain level of verification of your account (i.e. mobile number, etc). Else you're only able to choose out of the three random thumbnails selected by YT from the video you uploaded.

Cheers guys, I have a background picture made up and have added some simple text to it depending what video it is for.

I've changed the thumbnail for all three videos but I don't know If its just my laptop plaing around with me but only one is showing the new thumb nail while on my ipad & in video manager all three are showing the new thumbnail

Feel free to have a look at my channel (link in signature) and tell me what you think. I feel its a little more neat and semi professional / I look like I know what i'm doing etc - are all three videos showing the same thumbnail for you guys or is only the first one?

Nope, they all are different .

In my experience, once a video's been up, it may take YouTube a while to get the new thumbnails to all of the different platforms - updated and all... so no worries ~.....

Also if your browser has cached the page you'll still see the old thumbnail.

I've just checked again and now I have 2 videos with my custom thumb nails and one doing it's own thing! Guess I'll just have to be patient and wait for them all to update

It takes time for YT to update the changes. Same goes for title/description edits, it's correct on YT but if you share the link on other sites the old title/description will still be displayed.

There's a screenshot function in FCPX?!

Nope, just go full screen and do a command-shift-3... that'll get 'ya there ^_~ . Also, if you download OnyX, you can specify that the OS saves the screenshot as a tiff for better quality .

I use Sony Vegas for my thumbnails. Drag it to the best looking / catchy from in your video. Add some wicked looking text that you will be able to see when its a small image and export as a .png. You can always set your video to be private initially until you have sorted out your thumb nails and stuff then flip it to public once you are sorted.
