Hello everyone!

Has anyone got any recommendations on the best microphones to use for motovlogging? I currently use a Hama clip on microphone, but it really isn't working very well at the moment. Not sure why, I just can't get it to work as well as it used to. Any advice / suggestions much appreciated.

Get a Drift + Mic. Best advie for Vlogging :D

Erm, whats the actuall problem ? it's not picking up your voice very well or it's catching to much wind?

I'd suggest you place the Mic in the cheek pad, barewith me & I'll get a picture up of what my mic set up is so you get an Idea.

The black line indicates where my cable runs. Due to it being MASSIVE.

I've tied the cable up so it's tidy & out of the way & is tucked under the neck 'curtain' on the helmet.

Mic is wedged under the chin strap, when fitted & on my head the strap comes over the mic stopping wind, check my channel for the outcome.
The Jodrell Bank run isn't the best example but my Meeting video is pretty good, persoanlly.

hope these help :)

What microphones are other people using for their motovlogs?

I bought this cheapie from China for $20 and as expected it has died an early death. I thought it might last a few months but I guess I have been giving it a bashing. Any other recommendations?

I can't really recommend a mic, but the one I use is some 'Konig' lapel mic off eBay, cost about £6 inc. postage. It does the job well enough for me (susceptible to wind like most mics though).

That's a swell idea, I may very well try that next time I record :)

Thanks, I'm really sorry I didn't respond, the thread must have been cleared off the homepage before I logged on.

Will give this a go tomorrow :-)

If you ever get chance to read this Jet, then I highly recomend the Drift Camera, or a GoPro HD Hero 2, what camera are you using at the moment? You can plug the mic into the camera thus hiding all the wind noise & saves having to match the audio to the video.

& cheers Dave, I think it works brill, ThatmanfromYorrrrrkssshiire has the same way I think.

Leedsrider it works surprisingly well, this was my first idea with the mic aswell I'm glad to say (for once) it worked. :)

I've bought a mic that I've installed behind the cheek pad and connected up to my GoPro HD Hero 2 and I'm still getting a huge amount of vibration noise when the bike hits 2.5k rpm. In my single vlog I've managed to remove some of it through software filtering but it's still not very good (see my vlog for the result that ain't great).

My only thought now is the mic quality is not good (it only cost me £10, but most people don't seem to indicate spending much more), so I'm very interested in what some others use.

Yeah, I have the HD Hero, not the 2nd version, so no mic connection. Ideally what I want is a setup that records through an intercom system, that way it can record my audio and the audio of my pillion or mates. However that is a bit off yet.

Perhaps I could get the drift and locate the mic in the helmet as suggested, close to the ear piece so it can pick up the audio from intercom also. As you know mine is not the typical v log... although having said that I will probably go to normal v logging when I get back to Australia for good.

I was hoping someone might be able to reccommend a good separate mic setup. My cheapie off ebay broke after a month and the recording was not that good. Actually maybe someone can suggest why that might be. Because I was recording audio on the mic and also with the video camera, when I went to sync them up the audio would not sync entirely in time. When I went through the audio for the cheap audio recorder that I bought online it would 'hiccup' very now and again. That is the best way I can describe it. It would be missing maybe 0.2 seconds of audio but this was enough to throw it out of sync.

I got a kit from here

http://www.radios-uk.com/cyclekits.htm

Flat speakers + Boom mic... The one I had has a 2.5mm Mic jack.... so I stick it through a 2.5 - 3.5mm converter which is useful. I have the Go skeleton housing with a silicon cover. I put the converter in a small hole made throuhg the silicon cover which helps to keep moisture out.

It means that I can plug audio into my speakers too...

It does get a bit wirey though...

Patch cables aren't too hard to find, assuming your com system uses normal connectors. That should be as simple as finding a $5-$10 patch cable (which is basically just a Y connection). I think what you're going to want to do is go buy a voice recorder with a mic input and go that route. It can get to be a bit of a pain, but I've seen good results come out of it. The microphone itself isn't the important part, but rather the hardware and software that's saving the files. I wouldn't buy the cheapest voice recorder out there, but there's no reason to go buy one of the $100 ones either. Just find one that has a 3.5mm mic input jack and buy a $5 3.5mm lapel mic off ebay or amazon or whatever.
