Ozarks Meet-up 2015

LRider13, that would be great if you can make it to the meetup. I am planning on being there, since I live in Arkansas and clarksville is about maybe 2 to 3 hours from my home. I would love to attend, and see you there. Do you have a GoPro 3.5mm jack? I am right now trying to get my Sena SMH10-11 fixed. I sent it off to Sena yesterday, and it should be there by tomorrow. I was having problems with the unit itself, and I suspect it is probably a faulty capacitor or resistor, or maybe the speakers are going bad. I hope to have my replacement soon, and I asked one of the Sena techs to run some diagnostics on it like through an oscillioscope to check for the sudio wave lengths and if it is going to be compatible with the GP10. As far as I know, he said it was, but I also asked him to run some ideal tests on it when exposed to the environment before I am satisfied with it. Check out my latest videos on it on my channel.

I am trying a different setup while I wait for it to come back, and hopefully I will have it by the meetup in May, and it will be working fine.

I don't have a bluetooth system, though eventually I would like to. And I actually had a drift hd1080. I got it used off ebay for 130 hoping that everything would be in order, but as it turned out the only issue was the 2.5 external mic port. I sent it back and got a refund, and I will just be getting a new ghost instead. I thought about a manufacturer refurbished gopro hero 3, but I like the side mount point of view, and the gopro seems like it would have much worse aerodynamics than the drift. The refurbished ones are only around 140 though! I already have drift mounts on my helmets, so I'm going to stick with the drift.

Oh, and I just got reservations set for the ride!

You are absolutely welcome to attend!

I don't know if I will be attending anymore. I forgot my little sister's graduation party is on the 17th. How long will the ride last on Saturday the 16th you think? I am considering riding Saturday with everyone and then using the end of Saturday to go a couple hours toward home, staying the night and then riding the last 7 hours back to my hometown in Iowa. Think I would have enough time after riding the twisties Saturday to make that work?

We are looking at a good 7 to 7-1/2 hours of actual ride time, (if the group moves as expected). It's hard to judge when not knowing how everyone rides. Of the folks that I have rode with, and hope to see attend, my time estimate is realistic. Add 2 hours for lunch and gas. The plan will be to have kick stands up at 9:00 AM, so I would not plan at being back at the hotel before 6 PM. The Saturday route will be, rather engaging, lol. Unless you are used to riding ALL day, I'm not sure you are going to want to hop back on your bike at 7:30 or 8 PM and ride another 2-3 hours, lol. It gets dark around 8:30 or so, you'll need to be on high alert riding those Arkie back roads if caught out in the dark.

If you are headed back towards Iowa, your roads in between are really limited. I'm guessing you are going to head up AR-7 or AR-21? The only stops you will encounter that have lodging are Clinton and Harrison. There's a very limited amount of lodging in Jasper, I would not count on it being available without a reservation. Harrison is about 1-1/2 hours north of Clarksville. The next stop north is Branson (1/2 hour) and then Springfield.

Well I am not sure what I am going to do yet. I changed my reservations today figuring I can just ride it all on my own in the week prior to when you all will be there, but I don't know how fun that would really be. I want to be at my sister's grad party, but I am not sure if it is more important that a huge vacation ride in the Ozarks. Just trying to figure that out, and hopefully soon!

LRider13,
You could always run a modified version of the route as well if it's just a matter of getting out an hour or two ahead, i.e. out-and-back, quicker lunch, ect.

One thing that could throw you a curve is bad weather. Or a flat, lol.

Thinking about making a return this year... although I am a vlogging dinosaur and don't know anyone on this post except for ole XXX!!

Are any of the old names back from 2009ish still around, like Trinith, Matth1138, ToastToGo, Billmaa....etc.etc.??

I think everyone chucked this site and just communicate via Facebook. Toast and Trinith peek in on occasion. I don't do Facebook, so no idea what they are up to.

Well I am back in. I have reservations for the 15th 16th and 17th and I got work off! My sister told me to go on the trip instead of her grad party! So I'm excited to meet everyone and ride some twisties. See you all in May.

Hey, I wanted to let you know and everyone else know, that I am able to finally get that day off from work, or until plans change from now, which I do not think they will. I will be looking for someone to split the cost of the room I reserved recently. I may have another vlogger coming down with me, if he can, Redneck Biker 109. I made my gopro a little more aerodynamic as you will see in my latest video on my channel.

Oh well, I hope you do get a bluetooth system like what I have, but I have had some problems with it, but I think Sena knows about the issue I was having with the SMH10-11. I think I have it figured out.

Cool, I look forward to seeing you LRider and others there. :)

Sundays route is less taxing - approx. 194 miles winding through the hills north and west of Clarksville. We will be returning to one of our favorite eat-outs, Penguin Ed's in Fayetteville, with a Sunday romp down the Pig Trail and 103. I can forward a .gpx file to anyone that wants one, please PM.

I ran Push Mtn several times last week - the planned lunch stop at Cody's is a no-go, Cody's has closed for business. :( At this point, our lunch stop on Saturday has become a very fluid situation, as there are very limited eating options other than Marshall, or depending on time, stopping at the Angler's Diner north of Mountain View.

Out of curiosity, what is the fuel situation for both routes? Are there generally a decent amount of gas stations without Ethanol along the route? My bike generally gets 100-150 per tank depending on how happy my right wrist is, and just looking at the route makes me think my wrist will be quite happy. haha

Almost all gas stations in this area have 10% ethanol in their fuel. Marshall, Fayetteville and Mtn View will most likely be our fuel stops. There are a couple of very small gas stations scattered about, but it's a crap shoot if they will be open, or have gas. The small players generally close early if they are not busy enough to pay the attendant, lol. You should be fine, if you are on your own out there, stop sooner rather than trying to eek out more miles. :)
