New Compact Drift HD170

I was literally within seconds of ordering a Drift 170 on Amazon, but decided to check the Drift Innovation company web page to answer a question about an accessory.

There I saw this new Drift HD [no number], and realized that I clearly wanted the newer model.

Is there a reputable U.S. dealer who is taking pre-orders? I strongly prefer a dealer selling through Amazon. I don't think Drift sells directly through Amazon since all the Drift sales I've seen there are via dealers.

My pocket is on fire with a flaming $400 bill, ready to buy this camera!

We are accepting pre-orders for the Drift HD at our US sister company www.launchhelmetcams.com, and the 10% discount code I mentioned on page 1 of this thread for the motovloggers is valid through that website as well as our canadian URL. The HD is set to ship the first batch as of August 25th, so if you get on it soon, you can queue up for that first allocation.

DRIFT just sent along a new firmware update today for the HD. Gonna give it a go this weekend out on vancouver island. Weather looks pretty bad, so it will definitely show just how good the update stacks up. From the sounds of it, DRIFT has been able to nail all the different shooting modes on their own, but are having trouble balancing everything for a full release. For example, they can nail 1080 / 30fps, but then 720 / 60 fps suffers... that kind of thing.

One cool thing I can't remember if i mentioned is that it will maintain the 170 FOV even at 1080p. We've tried it out and it is legit. Contour made these claims with the PLUS, but didn't come through with it in the end. Basically, woo hoo for drift!

They have ordered production to start up again, and the cameras should be hitting shelves at your favourite DRIFT retailer (us, duh) in 3 weeks. I think they are working super hard to get this done, so I wouldn't expect any further postponements. We are basically through our first allocation now with all the pre-orders which is a good strong indicator that people seem pretty pumped for this unit. Remember you guys still have a discount code open for the forum members! If you need it again you can just PM me or dig around for the initial post I put it in.
