My $160 Setup Matches A $600 Go Pro Hero 4 Set-up!

I just got the HDR-AS20 myself in Australia and cost $249. 1080p at 60fps seems pretty clear and decent to myself. quite happy with it and its performance especially for the cost compared to a gopro or other action cams

I was looking at those today because somehow my GoPro 3+ grew legs and walked away at my last trackday. They are at a great price but my only issue was the mic. I use the Sena SMH10R with the GoPro backpack to connect to the 3 and was wondering if the Sony had the same kind of wireless connection. I couldn't find out so I went and ordered another GoPro this time I just went with the standard 3 not the 3+.

I also have 2 other GPs and with all the extra cases and what not I have bought over the years its tough to let it all go.

want to look at the Sena cam if you're into using coms in your vlogs. Downshift uses it for his videos. Seems to have pretty decent video. I plan to split off the stereo mic on my AS100V so one channel is ambient and the other is coms. That way I can cross-fade the voice and exhaust noise.

I was looking at the Sena cam but at $400 I thought it was a little steep. I have three other GoPros so I just stayed in that world. I also found an Ebay store that sells them GoPro refurbished for cheap and they have a 99% rating so I went that route. I got the Hero 3 for $130.

seems great for the price!
i myself use a go pro hero 3 with a side mount, cost me about £180 for all my gear in total so not to bad

screw 4k, afaik the diff isnt even visable unless you have a 60" screen...

I can tell a huge difference between 4K on my 28" 4K monitor and 1080 on the same size monitor. I'm sitting as close to it as you would to any other computer screen though, so it's not like I'm staring at a TV that's 10 ft away. That being said I think 4K is ridiculous for motovlogging. Most people don't have 4K displays anyway and I'm willing to wager that most people watch motovlogs while they're doing other things - ie it's windowed in a small portion of the screen anyway. Plus I find it super annoying that my GoPro has to cut files in to 4GB chunks, which is roughly 17 minutes with 1080P 30 fps, so I can only imagine how much it would cut up 4K videos.

4K does have some lucrative uses though, for example, stabilization if you cop it. For a head-mounted cam though that really isn't necessary typically.

Consider this. If you edit your videos in 4k, but out put in 1080p, if you need to crop zoom in on something mid-vlog, that object won't be pixelated to hell when you zoom in. I did this with a recent vlog of me chasing sportbikes on Angeles Crest (dying squirrel zoom-in), and it was very pixelated because I capture, work, and export in 1080p.

Thanks for this! I have the same setup now thanks to you vid.
It's a great entry that saved he HEAPS while I get into this
