Motovloggers Invade Deals Gap!

I'm a definite maybe. I just got back from a rather expensive family vacation and need to do some minor maintenance to my bike. If I can get everything taken care of in time I'm in.

My attendance is also unlikely. (Sad face)

Ok guys, if you haven't made your reservations yet, you need to do so soon! Our group rate expires in a little over a week, that goes for cancellations as well!

Who are the definates?

You, me, and mytheral. Liz says she and her brother are most likely coming, Richard (Yellow ZX10 I rode with to AR) is apparently going, and I'm pretty sure KD4YSI (or something like that..) is going. There's a relatively healthy number of maybes.

*Checks bank account...*

How much do you suppose the weekend would cost? Would cost me about $85 in gas to get to and from the area...add on some cheap fast food so about $100 total for traveling

160 ish for the room, 20 a day for gas, and probably 15-20 a day for food.

Alrighty...so my total to make this will be around $350. Sounds about right since an 8-day long trip for Ozarks costs me about $750.

Everytime I talk about coming up with the money, I look around the room for potential things I could sell hahaha. I've been enjoying selling a lot of stuff recently.

selling stuff to make it... good idea..... do I really NEED two kidneys? heh

I am trying to gather up the cash to make it down.. but that damn fall I had last month messed everything up... but I think I have a plan...

Proposed routes on Google Maps yet? Have heard 421 is a pretty good road.
You mean 441? I don't know of a 421 (but that doesn't mean much.) I was thinking of making 2 out-and-back trips. 1 to go out over the Skyway with a stop on the other side for lunch, a nice little waterfall overlook, and time permitting perhaps a trip up to the Dragon if anyone is interested (though it'll be busy as hell...) The other would be to take Hwy 28 up to Deals Gap and ride the dragon once or twice (up to the group to decide) then either go back down 28 to the hotel, or add a few hours and go up through the park and down 441. That would be a pretty long ride though.

I was looking at some loops, and they either spend a lot of time on surprisingly straight state highways, or they seem to be dirt roads. There was a fair bit of interest in going to the Skyway anyway.

What do you guys think?

I was wrong, what do you guys think of these?

Sat - Up 129 to the Skyway, across to lunch and a waterfall, and back the same way. Plenty of stops along the Skyway if desired. http://goo.gl/maps/UE4Tg

Sunday - Up NC 28 (loads of fun, lightly traveled, great pavement,) Lunch at the Dragon, GSMNP, Cherokee, back to Franklin. Not as far as I thought. Mostly slower going through the park, but fairly scenic and relaxed. http://goo.gl/maps/esCCl

Yep ..... 441, sorry for the typo. Have to look at the routes you posted, I'm sure whatever you pick will be fine. :) Saturday's route might be a little short, we can adjust if needed, just have to see how it plays out. Google map time estimates are usually not overly accurate. Being that we might not have a big group of people, stops will go quicker.

edit fix typo and added

421 is a typo...that you repeated. :P 441 is...ok. It's the main drag through the park, from Gatlinburg to Cherokee, and has a fairly low speedlimit and a metric assload of traffic. I managed to make it almost all the way from Newfound Gap to Gatlinburg (20-30 miles I think) with the bike shut off and in neutral though, so it can allow for some pretty epic mpg. :)

I personally hate out-and-back, but the Skyway is a pretty long way away and leads to a whole lot of nothing, unless you like hay farms.
