Micro Sd Card Question

You're better off, for vlogging a 4 is a waste of time and has worse battery life than a new 3+.

Why not go for the cheap Hero 2014 if you want a second camera to match your main?

At the moment Im recording 1080/48 which is a bit better so will go class 10 but get a top notch one so will have to wait a bit as I need a new waterproof case to cut for the mic :-)

The difference between 60/30 fps is pretty substantial especially after rendering at matched settings...

3+ black is going for 350 while the 4 is going for 500...

I need to get on the snow to see if a second cam is really worth it...might be might not...

I think if I could snag a used one on the cheap then definitely yes...(heads to CL)...

It has 60 / 48 and 30 I couldn't decide so I went middle it seems ok ..that's about as technical as I get

Well 30fps used to be a technical limitation on cameras, and is half of the ideal 60fps (the max rate of common consumer monitors and TV's) so was a nice number to aim for with limited hardware.

24 also makes sense as it's the standard fps used in movies, but 48 is just double that, and is a really weird number. I don't know anywhere that uses the format other than those weird "high frame rate" 3D films.

Good info, been debating picking up a 4...Might just look for another 3+
The 3+ is in the same boat.
GoPro did a firmware update last year and the 3+4 both need the same cards now (although the pointless 4 black needs the Pro cards for recording 4K + protune)

The Hero4 silver gets >2hrs which is miles better than the 3 and on par with the 3+
The 4 black is pants though. About 1h 20min I think (and no LCD)

48's a rare number, why go for that over 60 or 30?
The only time I used 48fps was recording slowmo for the DarkWeem thing as 24fps is TV/film standard. Was a bit clunky tho :D

In the UK, the 3Black is £389(?), 3+Black is £329 and the 4Silver is £279 (Amazon)

I have a 3+ Black (it's inflated on Amazon because it is no longer made FYI, you can get it a lot cheaper) and two 2014 Heroes (bought the second one today!).

The 4 Silver is a re-branded and price hiked 3+ Black with worse battery life, and the 4 Black is not meant for our market at all.

What is even the point of 4k video  ??! Can't put it over cable, 1080p is slow enough even on a fast network, hard drives can only hold so much... correct me if I'm wrong, but right now I think it's just overkill - at least until it's time has come ;) .

Where are you finding this? Even seeing them on CL for $350

Plus I have $150 in amazon GC...

My 3+ silver doesn't have protune which I wanted to mess around with

Here's the best answer IMO, you do have to post process...

"Protune is best for people who will post process their video. It provides a flatter image, which gives you more detail in the extreme shadows and highlights of an image, instead of clipping them to black and white. It also cuts out the camera's post processing, getting rid of the extreme contrast, sharpening, and noise reduction. The image is kind of washed out and sometimes grainy because of all of this, so you would probably want to use GoPro's Cineform Studio or another video editor to get it looking back to normal. Protune also increases the recording bitrate, which significantly cuts down on the compression blockiness you usually see in very fast motion videos (especially on YouTube). This will allow you to get much higher quality footage in the end than what non-Protune mode can produce, and be able to match it to the output of another camera if you are using more than just GoPro"

As far as I can tell protune spanks your battery for gains that won't be noticed on YouTube.

It seems geared for broadcast quality shows to enable the absolute best quality and matching to other cameras.

Yup. Not too bad on battery, but you get a sh*t load more data on your card that you have to manage.
The main advantage is more detail in black areas.

If you're into photography, it's like setting your images to save as raw format rather then jpg.
Hero4 can do protune on images as well as video now... for those that use it as a camera (?)

Like 4k, it's another option you don't really need, but could be useful in zero light (if you remember to change the settings)

I guess if you're buying a new camera and can afford it, then why not get the latest as it'll be more futureproof. But then you need to weigh in battery life. Those who vlog on the way to work can cope with a 1h battery, or those who go out to record piece and only that piece.
