maps in video

I've used Google Maps in the past, not sure if allowed to though, although with Google owning YouTube I'm sure that they would have alerted me if they weren't happy!

Maps can be copyrighted, though some created by the US Government are free to use. I've used images from Google maps in a video and the Stroke effect in After Effects to animate the route I've taken. I wouldn't be surprised if there is software out there that can do the same thing, but getting around the copyright could bring about a violation notification on a video. It might be best to trace over a map (neatly) and then presented in a video so it comes across as an original work.

I wondered how to get that to work, I might have a play and see if I can get it to work for me :)

If you're using the Go Pro with Quick, just use quick to place and adjust the overlay and then export it. Use the exported file in the editing software of your choice. If you only want the overlay in specific sections, import the original file and the export with the overlay then sync the two files. Make your cuts based on where you want the overlay to be displayed.

lol I animate all of my maps in Photoshop.

It is a little time consuming, mainly because I'm very particular about how I want it to look.
I design the map base, then animate the line and text fade ins and stuff.

For my Baja Series I had my boyfriend animate it in After Effects lol
