I've used Google Maps in the past, not sure if allowed to though, although with Google owning YouTube I'm sure that they would have alerted me if they weren't happy!

If you are looking to animate maps, it will be difficult to find a free program, that will give a pleasing result.
I have animated with photoshop, and it was fairly time consuming.

Maps can be copyrighted, though some created by the US Government are free to use. I've used images from Google maps in a video and the Stroke effect in After Effects to animate the route I've taken. I wouldn't be surprised if there is software out there that can do the same thing, but getting around the copyright could bring about a violation notification on a video. It might be best to trace over a map (neatly) and then presented in a video so it comes across as an original work.

The GoPro Hero 6 Black has an integrated GPS data feature that you can toggle on or off. However, you can only make real usage of that data if you use GoPro's Quick editing software which is absolute sh*t, IMO.
