Light and dark transitions... camera settings or editing?

Hey all, just finished riding the lost coast here in California. I'm running this new dji osmo action, I like it, but I'm having an issue with the video and it's hard to edit. We rode a really lush green spot by the beach shrouded in trees on a hot sunny June day, so the transitions from dark to light are blinding at times. I've tried editing it out, I am currently using Camtasia 21, and the only adjustments I have are brightness, contrast, and color saturation.

Question 1, what settings can I adjust on the camera to help fight this?

Question 2, what is a better way to edit the clip i.e. other software, settings etc.

Not sure about the camera you use but GoPros will do that too especially going through a tunnel. It seems the auto exposure going in does fine but coming out gets overwhelmed for a second.

You can try cutting out the exit from dark or use a similar white transition in your cuts so the one the camera does seems ok by comparison.

Or my usual is not worrying too much with it as it is part of the process.

Each brand has their own software and hardware peculiarities, so probably the best way is to run several tests, changing the settings one by one and seeing how they affect the camera in same spot. Tedious, I know.
My first guess would be to increase framerate, if possible and switch on HDR, that could reduce the problem, but I am fairly sure, it will not eliminate it. Even our own eyes get blinded, when we exit tunnels.

If you are using background music, make the transition pair with an upbeat, or swelling passage of the music to make it a part of the transition moment.

This may not work, but if possible, place a copy of the same clip of the transition moment to run together in synch on your editing time line. Next, play with the opacity of the top copy track to help filter the brightness of the light to dark transition. If that doesn't work, maybe try to work with Blending Modes if your editing software uses them.
