Site owner, lovely and adorable
I know barely anything about processors etc but I know i5 and i7 is good, anything that can spit out the same power?

My office laptop is i7 but it's too big to lug around, I want something thats 13" and of a decent price (not apple)

Any suggestions? I only use Adobe premier elements and coral video studio, the machine I use at home is slow

most 13inch computers are not the best, a 15 to 17 inch pappy would be fine.

Knowing a budget allows the best result.

I would say £500 at the most really. I don't want a bigger screen as I lug it about and I only want it for video stuff.

If I end up with a bigger one then I'll end up doing proper work

Saw a Lenovo Idealpad Yoga 13.3 inch with Intel i5 1.8GHz processor for £630 on Amazon. The screen is 1600x900 which will be useful for video editing and 4GB RAM. It ain't gonna be perfect but some reviews seem to suggest it handles editing reasonably well even though there is no dedicated graphics card. Still worth a look to see if it fits the bill.

Dan - having messed around for fecking ever with pc's and laptops, do yourself a favour and move to a macbookpro. They work, simple as that - they just WORK!
I use the basic imovie that came with it but you can add a much better editing program, vagas pro for instance.
My daughter just got a 15" one for $500 - second hand of course, but that would leave you some change for software. My wife has a smaller one, 13", which I do all my editing on. If and when I want to see it bigger I just plug it into the digital TV. All vlogging stuff gets saved on an external drive so the macbook doesn't get full and run slow :)

Apple wasn't an option but I have found a great machine. Apple are too restrictive and I can't use 60% of the software I need for it, plus I hate apple

Dell xps 13.3, quick as anything and can take a right pounding.

I agree with the above comments. You aren't likely to be able to get a machine that will do a great job when sticking to a 13" size. Due to price I would suggest looking into a 3rd gen i5 processor (4th gen if the price is there, at LEAST 6 gigs of ram, and plenty of hard drive space. AMD also makes FX series processors, which are no joke, but I personally like Intel more for my application, and they are more available. I would suggest staying away from HP and Dell. HP sucks (I have had one literally melt on me when it was 2 days old), Dell sucks until you get to their high end computers. Sony Vaio makes a good computer, if you get their higher end stuff ($900+), Asus and Acer (sister company) are both very good computers. I personally run a CyberpowerPC and it is amazing, but expensive. Lenovo is alright, Gateway is a bit slower but bulletproof. A tablet style computer will be useless for editing. A MAC is a good choice, but I don't like paying an extra $1000 for the same computer on the tech side. They work and they work well, but what they don't do well they fail at life with.

I would actually suggest going to a desktop for the price. You can get a good setup, and if you do a little bit of research you can actually add components as your budget grows. I actually spent over $1700 on my laptop that a $1000 desktop can do, but for work I needed it to be portable, so my wallet had to suffer. Another thought is to set up a desktop computer as a server and access it remotely with your laptop. It will work as fast as a desktop, but on a portable laptop. And when you need to upgrade storage, ram, processor, etc., you can just buy the parts for the desktop as opposed to buying a new laptop every two to three years. I was actually looking into this, but I personally opted not to simply because in the future I will be building an even more powerful desktop for work (I work with Maxon Cinema 4D, Adobe Photoshop CS6, and Sony Vegas Pro 12 simultaneously. I need computers that can run like a tank).

I've got a machine which is fantastic and 13 inch.

I7 processor that hammers video editing with ease.

A desktop isn't an option

Making sure I'm reading your comment correctly.
You did find, and bought, a computer? Or are you still looking?

Sleep deprivation is starting to get me...

Care to share what you ended up with? I'm in the market for a new setup myself. My desktop is outdated now and my current laptop is a bit underpowered.
