I've heard mixed answers on this guy's. Does the hero 5 not have external mic capabilities?

I can't imagine them ever putting it back on the gopro if this one doesn't have it. I don't think it's to widely used in the professional environment either.
so is this the end for gopro and motovlogging???
what do you guys think?

It does have external MIC capability.
I don't know what the go is on the protective/sealing door though.
Here's the new adapter required - http://shop.gopro.com/APAC/accessories-2/pro-3.5mm-mic-adapter/AAMIC-001.html

mind blown. but shesh that's a big bitch to have attached to your helmet. hmmm hero session has external mic capability now too. hmmmmm

You could just tape it to the side of your helmet. At least it is now a 90 degree connecter and charge port included.

GoPro has always been the first and go to camera.

I wouldn't really say it's the best, every day camera for motovlogging if you wanna chat

There market isn't really motovlog anymore, don't think it really has been. We're a tiny audience for them

Truth. It wouldn't surprise me if a startup company came into the game and started developing the perfect motovlogging camera. I know Sena has been working on camera stuff, but from what I've seen the quality still isn't there.

Sena knows the market well!

The downside is they're scaling and I personally think the quality has dropped

I went from the smh5 to the 20 thinking it would be awesome but it's not at all

The camera is really hard to get hold of as well

Hero 2 had a 3.5mm jack. But the Hero 2's sound card (?) sucked ass in my experience so I guess it doesn't matter anyway.

I think there will always be a market for action cams with some sort of microphone capability. Surely motovloggers aren't the only people recording sound?

Seems like there is a new Sena w/camera built into the intercom unit. Could this be the acceptable option?

IMO I'd rather spend the cash on a dedicated recorder than on getting a camera-Sena. Keeping the GoPro as the actual camera. Syncing isn't that hard.

hero session

Looks like just the Hero5 Session has the external mic option and not the Hero Session. I just bought the Hero Session four weeks ago. Not too big a deal because I use a separate audio recorder, the Olympus LS-10, which I drop in my jacket pocket. It's a bit of a pain to do it this way, but it does let me look at camera options without considering audio.
