I kept saying I'd wait, I'd wait, I'd wait... and then I bought, and bought, and bought.

Now I have enough to equip my bike with dual cameras and my wife's bike with the 3rd... or 1 per bike if someone else rides with us. And I keep looking at Facebook Marketplace for deals on slightly-used GoPros to add to my collection. Can you imagine syncing up the a/v for a group ride with 10 bikes and having to edit all their footage together? LOL

This would have been so much more enterntaining if it would have ended with "yesterday" instead of "this summer"

Well it took longer than Theodor wanted, but my willpower did finally crack. My Insta360 One X2 is ordered and on it's way now. I have a plan on how I want to mount it but I'm certain I'll need to play around with the mount a bit to find a happy solution.

I hope I can utilize it the way I want to, but even if I can't I'm certain I can find some great uses for it. 360 cams seem very versatile and I'm looking forward to playing with a new toy! I mean learning a new "motovlogging tool"! :D

Haha, welcome to the club, Mengy! You will come to rue the day you ordered it, all while you giggle at the neat shots you can get with it, and wonder to yourself, "where did the last 4 hours of my life go?" as you edit the footage.

Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor!

Did you manage to get the sale price, or had they finished the sale by the time you pulled the pin?

Yep got the sale price and the free case!

Is editing really that bad with them? I've watched a ton of videos and the Insta360 software doesn't look that bad, in fact it looks pretty nice to work with?

It all depends what you're trying to accomplish.

For me, I use only parts of them, so if you watched my vid on 360 editing in Resolve, you'll see that I export all the footage from GoPro's app [I bet it's quite similar for the Insta360 studio] and then incorporate it into my Resolve project, but when you want to animate the cameras, it's not hard, just can be time-consuming, especially if you're timing to music and stuff.

If you're using one camera angle at a time, it's pretty fast, actually... but I don't do that often - usually I'm animating the camera around :D

It also depends of the computer you use. Mine is quite low powered and watching the raw footage in the editor and figuring out the angles and pans takes time, because it will not even play it smoothly.

Oh, that's something I forgot to mention - the Reframe360 plugin in Davinci Resolve uses the GPU for hardware accelerated reading of the video files and displaying it on-screen, so when I'm editing and displaying a lot of 360 footage, my GPU temp goes up but the playback remains 99% smooth.

Just something to keep in mind.

I do simple edits, and they take no time at all. I render them at not quite 2.7k 150,000 windowed fixed view, 30fps from 5.7k/30fps 360 footage

Got mine last week, spending quite a bit of time messing about with it, really enjoying the dual rides with Mrs RG. She being new I can film everything and we edit the footage and go through where we can sharpen up a few riding tips and road positioning. She is really benefiting from reviewing the footage after a ride. I might see if I can add a bit here to show you (I'm not putting any on YT yet so no link to any of our dual Insta360 video) ...

One thing I have noticed is I can't get to my desktop whilst rendering, it locks it out. Can't minimise it once I've started to render ... how very dare it!

TBH, I've not tried doing other stuff while it renders as I have 2 PCs, so let the editing PC just do its thing while I Facebook etc on the other one.

It is an old PC I got when I was in the RN, back when I got it, it was pretty decent specs for a budget "gaming" PC, it hasn't got much life left in it I don't think, but it is nice having 2 so I can leave the beast to do it's work :)

Got my ONE X2! Going to experiment with mounting it and using it on the bike this week, hopefully I can put out a motovlog using it soon! :D

So I've done some experimenting with my ONE X2 so far and I like it, I think I can use it the way I want to.

However, yes the video quality is not up to Hero 7+ levels when reducing the field of view (FOV) down to a "normal" camera look. That said, as long as I back the FOV off some and keep a little bit of fisheye going on the vid quality is useable IMHO.

Here are screen grabs from some ONE X2 test footage I took with the kind of FOV I'd like to utilize:

One issue I have is the way I have it mounted, the GoPro arm parts I'm using result in the ONE X2 shaking a tiny bit while riding and this might be causing some motion blur for me. I ordered a better RAM B ball mount setup yesterday and I hope it makes the camera perfectly stable. If not it will still be a better mounting setup anyway so money well spent!

Still learning the Insta360 Studio editing software but it seems easier than I expected, in fact its kind of fun and it makes me feel like a Hollywood director deciding where I want the camera to look at every moment. It does take time but I think with more practice I can get pretty quick with it.

Looking forward to making my first motovlog with this ONE X2! :D
