So I've been using a $20 mic I got off amazon but its total crap and I cant find a place in my helmet that won't pick up all the wind noise. I've placed it inside the helmet liner like rebel has it, outside like most people do in about 4 areas and the wind always just blocks out everything I'm saying. I do have a wind screen on the mic, but actually think that made it worse. I'm using a Variant with a GPH2 camera. The mic I have at the moment is a Olympus ME-52W. Any suggestions are welcome if people have other ideas.

I currently use the external microphone of the Olympus DS-40 dictaphone I picked up off ebay for £25. I mount mine in my helmet liner like rebel does, check my vids to see the quality, I think it works a treat :)

I just use a cheap Konig mic along with a DS40, it works well enough, I put the mic in the recess in the lining of my hemet where the chinstrap goes in (an idea I stole from AZZ3R).

Also you might want to turn the sensitivity on your sound recorder down to it's lowest setting. But the problem for me is the stupid screen on my bike, it's quite tall so it creates a shed load of wind noise :(

I've heard some people have had problems with the camera continuing to use the internal mic even though the external mic is connected. Have you eliminated that possibility?

I was using two mono lavalier mics with a dual mono-stereo adapter, it proved too complex and many wires on the helmet. Finally I just settled on a $18 radio-shack gigaware mic here: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... d=13103945 it doesn't have the frequency range or sensitivity as the lavalier setup, but it's a good compromise for simplicity. Check my newest videos to hear how it sounds, the last 4 or 5 were recorded with this mic. I did put some foam over the mic to reduce wind noise. I mounted it just to the side of my mouth in the chinguard (I cut a small recess in the chinguard and double side taped it in so it sits flush)

No I'll have to check this out.

Both the Azden and Audio Technica are terminated in mono, the GoProHD2 has a stereo input, plugging a mono mic into this only drives one speaker. This Pearstone CLICK HERE terminates into a stereo 1/8" plug which will keep both channels active. It's budget priced and has good reviews.

Why would one need stereo for motovlogging? Just curious...One side of the mic is up against my helmet and I really just use it to pick up my voice. Maybe I am missing something?

Stereo mics would be cool if you were going to tell stories with multiple characters. You could talk out of the left side of your mouth for one and change your voice and talk out of the right side for the other. Seems like it would/might be kinda cool. lol

true stereo is not needed, but playback from a mic with a mono plug only uses the left speaker. When you use a mic terminated in a stereo plug both speakers are used and playback sounds more full.

I went with the 3350

I also had to do a little modification to my helmet and the mic, as the mic comes with a cord thats 30 feet long. I don't really like how I have to turn the mic on and off all the time as its just one more thing to forget/get in the way, but we'll see how it goes.
