I'm sure some of you have noticed that some people's videos are of a much higher visual quality than other peoples, using the same model camera and settings.

I thought I would make this thread so we can discuss the factors affecting it, so that we can all have high quality vids!

I was looking for some info for my friend to improve his video quality, as this is what his videos are looking like (He claims they look the same as raw files)

He's using a Drift HD 720

While other people using the same settings are getting things looking like this;

I wonder if it's anything to do with the cameras or just because he's using the following settings

converting them into Avi/DivX;
Video; 8192 kbps, 30fps, 16:9, 1280x720
Audio; 44100 Hz, 128kbps, 2 channel

When if he was using something like Adobe Premiere he could be using the H.246 codec

The first link appears to be broken. His settings look fine. An 8Mbps video stream is pretty high for a 720p resolution.
I had similar issues with different video formats. I forget the exact settings I use for my videos, plus they are 1080p resolution, but try different file formats. H.264 may yield better results than the AVI format as it is the more widely accepted file format. It is quickly growing to a more efficient codec compared to AVI.

Play around and find the best format for your software and your target audience. I upload several videos to private and check them out before adding a video to public view. Just because it looks good on your computer doesn't mean it will stand up to the post conversion process.

Youtube tells you what you should upload in:

Advanced encoding settings

Recommended bitrates, codecs, and resolutions, and more
Container: .mp4

No Edit Lists (or you may lose AV sync)
moov atom at the front of the file (Fast Start)

Audio Codec: AAC-LC

Channels: Stereo or Stereo + 5.1
Sample rate 96khz or 48 khz

Video Codec: H.264

Progressive scan (no interlacing)
High Profile
2 consecutive B frames
Closed GOP. GOP of half the frame rate.
CABAC
Variable bitrate. No bitrate limit required, though we offer recommended bit rates below for reference
Color Space: 4.2.0
Type Video Bitrate Mono Audio Bitrate Stereo Audio Bitrate 5.1 Audio Bitrate
1080p 50,000 kbps 128 kbps 384 kbps 512 kbps
720p 30,000 kbps 128 kbps 384 kbps 512 kbps
480p 15,000 kbps 128 kbps 384 kbps 512 kbps
360p 5,000 kbps 128 kbps 384 kbps 512 kbps

So, your drift hd should be uploaded at 1280x720 @ 30 at 30,000kbps in mp4 or H.264 etc etc

Agreed!

I found the best video quality is to import the raw file. and Export at a = 2 or higher then Bit rate the video was recorded in,

I also adjust the white balance etc.

I save in H.264 - mov. genrally around 16Mbit/s regardless if its 720P or not

Whoa ok I just found this and I'm doing 1080 @ 30 and my vids look fuzzy. What you said Pete just completely lost me can you elaborate a bit please?
