GPS overlay

As some of you might know I am creating an app, and I think it might be a nice feature to record GPS tracks for all you gopro users out there. In the app you start recording your gps location and then import into a program like dashware and get something like this

Which is kinda cool I think. I can also include an exporter for cyclecam if anybody uses that.

My Sony AS100VR has a program that lets me re-rip videos with a speed, time elapsed, route, and other data in a few different views. My only gripe about is the speed indication is very laggy. By the time I'm railing the next corner, it's just then showing the speed from the straight section.

Looks like yours has speed closer to realtime. Very cool. Any idea if this might be compatible with the Sony GPS files? What's the extension type on the GoPro files?

Gopro has no gps...as far as I know. Mine doesnt. Send me an example file then I can check if I can do this for you...

Should have brought my camera in to work. I'll try and send you one tonight. Is it possible to attach a file to PM?

I dont know but you can hit me up on my contactform on my website vlotomog.com and I will mail you back. Don't worry about the timing though, no pressure hehe take it eeeaaazzzzyyyy.

Thanks in advance man!

Are there current apps that record location without using up data on the move? I've done some hefty ride outs, some are just trying out a turn off a road, and it's near impossible to remember where you've been sometimes.

You talking an iPhone/Droid app? I haven't noticed much of a file size difference with my Sony. The file sizes are pretty small. It seems like it records a coordinate every few seconds. It'd be nice if I could increase the GPS speed.

I've got a 5S. Something would be nice so I could recreate a map to have as a layer in a video, I'd like to have the map show the progress via the ubiquitous red line, but that might be asking a bit much.

Any suggestions as to the best way to do this would be appreciated!

This is exactly the functionality that I am creating...and if you are worried about loosing data the program will detect a loss in internet and save the coordinates locally. The first sign of internet it will upload the package of coordinates.

In my app you will be able to set the gps timer yourself. Default is about every 5 seconds. And I will also make the timing dynamic so that it records more points in a environment where you speed up and slow down alot...the packages are really small since its just long, lat, speed, heading and altitude.

My gps track will also be available to show on Google maps and you can make them publicly available as well.

I was more thinking of an app (yours or otherwise) that will record coordinates on the device, and upload them only on wifi, thus saving those on metered data. Is there an app out there at the minute (for iOS) that will do this at the moment? I'd like to be able to use it on my ride outs soon.

I know that the Garmin camera has an inbuilt GPS and can give you quite a nice overlay showing speed/location etc. Only downside is that it has nowhere near the publicity that GoPro has, and from what i've seen, video quality is noticeably lower than the GoPro.

Love the idea of the app though, what OS's are you releasing it on?

I know a few cyclists that use Garmin products. They're always complaining about bugs etc

I have to agree with Salty Suzi I don't like the idea of my speed displayed on the screen but if they could read the speedometer (if i had one) on the bike then i don't care. However if i was on a track or riding trails then that would be sick to have your speed displayed.
