GoPro money grab?

So, I was editing this morning and reading emails. GoPro sent one about ReelSteady and the GoPro player. I open my program since I have to use it for the Max and sure enough when I click on the ReelSteady button, it asks for an activation number.

I contact GoPro via chat and explain that I have the Max but do know the activation number. The Rep is nice and checks only to come back with:

Oh, an add on. Well surely it cannot be much can it?

I look at my email again and check out a link or two to find GoPro wants $99.99 USD for the upgrade!
The Rep also chimes in that if I buy the Hero 10 Bones that was just announced, it is included. Just 399.98 USD with my subscription. Mind you, not the Hero 10 but the Bones that they "developed" for using on drones.

Well, let me reach in my front pocket where I keep my throw around money and . . .

$100 for something that I already can do with my other software that comes with into those programs for free

Unpopular opinion:

My Hero 9 has all the stabilization and I realistically need.
If I wanted even more than the quality I can get out of this camera it would have to be because I was already producing content of such a high caliber of quality and success that $99 wouldn't upset me.
I may even be delighted to pay $99 to continue to support a company that allows me to make content of such high quality so successfully.
At this point I am not producing content of a high caliber or high level of success, so I am glad that my camera manufacturer is trying to bill other people for extras that I don't need, instead of trying to make me pay for something I won't use by padding it into the price of my camera.

Of course, it's a free country, so you're free to feel as entitled to all of the things for whatever price you've decided sounds right to you. Likewise, people are free to charge you what they decide sounds right to them.

If GoPro wants to charge $99 for something I don't need to people who seem to need it, based on how much I do get from my camera already, I really couldn't care less.

I imagine you have already paid for it by having the camera in the first place Adrian, so now they have taken away a feature they have already charged you for. But yes, a company can charge what they like and take features away from loyal customers who may have opted for another companies product if they had known it was going to be removed.

So it previously existed, and was a no charge feature, and then was later changed to a premium feature?

I've never heard of it before so I googled it, and the first result said "Introducing ReelSteady, the next generation of video stabilization for After Effects."

I took the "Introducing" to mean this is something new that never existed before, but if I understand your message correctly, that isn't the case?

GoPro bought ReelSteady in 2020 or 2021, and incorporated it [sic] into their Player app for a $100 upcharge. It does not replace, but enhances the built-in stabilization that we GoPro users have come to know & love. It's 100% not necessary for what we do, IMO. The sample clips I've seen so far all center around BMX bikes... not motorcycles. I will be skipping it, and using Resolve's built-in stabilization where necessary.
