So i figured it would be a few years before the next gopro would be released but this is CRAZY. For one, it looks badass as a camera can get, two, its flipping TEENY TINY and three, its gopro so you know it's going to be able to take a hit from a car or two and hold up just fine :D

http://gopro.com/
Saw it on facebook, i'm not sure where else you can find the picture other than on FB?

Thoughts?
-Personally i am worried about the battery life, with it being 30% smaller i am scared the life will be even worse than it currently is. I know there have been times when i cuss myself after it dies before a wicked awesome shot because i over estimated how long it can stay alive.

Big news indeed, thanks for sharing this. Just bought the dang Hero 2, 1 month ago exactly.
Ah well, I'll check out the new features and decide if it's time to start saving again.

Battery life has always depended on how much of the processor you are using. The new processor is at least twice as fast so in theory it should handle standard resolutions using less battery power.

With the new diet you'll be able to carry spare batteries without losing too much space or carrying too much weight.

Bit pissed off the certificates haven't been granted in the UK yet as I would like to purchase several of these units :D

I have to say, that is pretty good! Just looked at the specs and it says wifi built in? Does that mean it will have the ability to email videos while your out as well as use the wifi remote? That would be ace!

quite liking it but it doesn't have a 3.5 mic jack you have to use a usb to 3.5 adaptor from the looks of it that's what's turning me off it atm.

must admit 3 tires are a good idea so people who cant afford the £300 camera can get the cheaper £150 camera that's still good and a gopro XD

True, after thinking about it for a while, since it is 30% smaller if you really wanted more battery you could use the battery back pack and it would come out to about the same size as the standard gopro.

Also it shoots in 4k! (useless for youtube but anyone with a creative mind could make some epic video's for VIMEO)
Looks like your white is the new version of the GoPro HD which would explain why the Hero HD is out of stock same price at 199
The silver is the Hero HD 2 with the 11 mega pixel instead of the 5, and costs the same as the Hero 2
It's the black I really want. Like it was stated above the only real downfall as a motovlogger would be the needing of an adaptor for 3.5m mic jack
These are also micro SD Cards 64gb :D yummy. But most monitors everyone has can't even display 4k the only real world benefit to us that 4k would be utilized for is crazy good stills from the video, and blowing up the video with out loosing a shit load of quality.

Anyone want to donate my poor uni ass 400$ so I can do some crazy shit with these over the winter XD

That camera might just get me back to vlogging.

Not that anyone gives a damn.

I was waiting for a camera like that.

I give a damn because that b**** and she is such a b****

I might just buy one of the new black series just for the heck of it. It's more practical than many point and shoot, has better video than my DSLR and hopefully it has better mounts than my contour

Here is a video i found that give it a pretty good overview

Once again the biggest disappointment is the lack of the 3.5. Looks like back to external audio recording for this one unless you feel like dealing with what can be assumed a stupid adaptor that is large and floppy. I doubt they will back a teeeny tiny wireless mic bacpac like they should.

Before ya'll get a big boner over this ....... remember that GoPro is notorious for advertising features that are not always "operative" at the time of release. Hell, I'm still waiting for the 720p "Medium" FOV setting that they still advertise that the Hero2 has, lol. So despite all it's promise, I'd wait and see some reviews.

Why would I upgrade to a Gopro Hero 3?

2.7k at 30fps: Now the camera can do 4k, but only at 12 frames per second. Anything slower than 24fps is garbage to the human eye. So even though it can do 4k, it's a useless 4k to me since I pine for smooth video and crisp image quality. BUT 2.7k is better than the 1080 I'm shooting at now. If you see yourself trying to make beautiful video footage with the highest quality resolution available under $500, its a good buy.

1080p at 120 fps: Can you say super slowmo? Goodbye twixtor! This was one of the biggest positives for me. Current cameras can do 60fps, but not at 1080. Now you'll have a camera that is shooting at highest youtube quality at 120 frames a second. So if you were to slow that footage down to 25% speed, it would still play at 30 frames. Damn that is sweet.

Built in wifi + remote: Hero 2 wifi and remote are both individual upgrades you will have to purchase. And if you ever wanted to shoot multiple cameras simultaneously on your bike, you'd either have to manually trigger them all, OR spend your entire paycheck to get all the wifi addons and new housings for each camera and sync them up. PEE U. With the new cams, they can sync to the same remote without any additional purchases besides the new camera itself. Also, it works with the iPhone app without any additional purchases, so you can see your camera view live, plus control it without having to purchase a screen or wifi adapter for it.

I went and pre-ordered the black edition. Funny thing is, I'm keeping my Hero 2 as my helmet cam, and using the Hero 3 as the action angle camera. I'll do a comparison when I get it in hand.

It's only 120FPS at 720 and highest for 1080 is 60fps, which is still super awesome. But youtube tops at 720p, it's not true 1080. Plus my net sucks so much i can't watch and load 720, i have to pause and let it load for a while.

Also super jealous. Having the hero2 as the vlog camera is still a good option, we should see the price go down soon too? I would message gopro to see if you can get a discount since you JUST bought the hero2

Thanks for the correction on the 1080 @ 60fps. : )
60fps at 1080 is still a step up. Though I said goodbye twixtor if you do use it with 1080 @ 60 I'm sure the results will be super crisp and wonderfully slow (the good kind, not the 28.8 modem kind).

60fps @1080p is what sold it for me, 4x is just overkill for now,

the 36.52 Mbit/s recording rate is 3 times higher then any camera on the market.

thats proof enough its better all-round
eg

drift cameras max 12.2Mbit/s

sony 15.2Mbit s

JVC 15.2Mbit/s

Hero 3: 36.26 Mbit/s
thats only on the standard firmware too. So once new updates come, imo it will be pushed to 45Mbit/s +

compare that to youtubes 8Mbit/s streaming rate and its prrof you never see the full quality

I was really hoping for bluetooth audio that could pair to Chatterbox/ScalaRider/ etc.. communication setups. Bluetooth audio isn't great, but it would be a great feature that would have me plopping money down this instant on the new GoPro3.

What appeals to me is the idea of being able to change the FOV to reduce distortion. 1080p 60FPS is also great.

Coupled with the remote means that for users like me that want to be able to use the gopro to record action from the helmet/motorcycle body, as well as from a vantage point elsewhere. I.e. from the side of the road while driving past. Can use the remote to activate the camera while riding past, this means you only have a 1 minute clip for each time you ride past to capture action, rather than a 5 minute clip, thus being able to conserve battery and memory.

All this talk of size being so much smaller, I can't find anywhere a photo of both the Hero 2 vs the Hero 3, side by side. Anyone got a picture?

Battery life is also crucial for me. I don't think the gopro needed to get smaller, personally I would have much preferred the same size and an increase in battery life.

However, the one thing I want to see is the image quality that comes out of it. How much better is the sensor at capturing colours. More importantly, how good is it in a low light situation. I love the idea of being able to use the gopro later into the night and still capturing decent footage.
