I don't use the Media Mod because of exactly that... and it is a pig to change batteries. For my dirtybike setup, I use a Hero 8 with the GoPro Microphone Adaptor and a Ulanzi GP8-7 door. I also use amalgamating tape to cover the open port on the mic adaptor and to tape around the mic jack to stop water getting in and the jack wobbling about. If it is a really wet day, I'll use blutak around the USB-C port on the Ulanzi door on the GoPro to help stop any water getting in to it.

Yup, although if you have a subscription to GoPro you can get the mic adaptor from them for less

Interesting, I never noticed any pops from the Hero 8 Media Mod in my videos. Maybe my hearing just ain't good enough?

Either way, I used the Hero 8 w/Media Mod, and a Purple Panda lapel mic clipped to my left ear pad (half helmet).

Now I use the same setup but with the Hero 9 and its Media Mod.

This is about in helmet audio John, not half helmet.

Yes, you're right - I was only speaking to my experience with the Hero 8 and Hero 9 Media Mods in regards to external microphone pops & clicks, and that I haven't experienced that. If I'm out of line, I will take my punishment.

Well this just answered my question about the snapping/crackle noise. It sounds like I wasted money on the Media Mod. I have done audio professionally and this is not the setup of choice for me, however I am trying to keep my helmet light and easy to setup for vlogging. I have so far wasted about 2 hours of vlog time. Once there was no audio because the setting changed when I put the camera on the helmet for the input and the second wasted hour was full of crackling, popping noises, especially at speed.

IIRC, there were some threads in the GoPro community forums wherein people had their cameras replaced by GoPro because of pops and crackles, and the replacements worked better. Some hardware fault or another.
