Full Leathers Or Textiles And Armoured Jeans

I always ride in full leathers. Either shooting to the local shops or going out on a heavy ride. Lots of companys sell kevlar jeans now.

Thing is leathers are always banging on about being cow leather or kangaroo leather and being 2 layered or 3 layered or double stitched or triple stitched etc etc bla bla blahhh and yet jeans just have one layer . . . Same goes for textiles. Obvs its got the armour in it but what about the rest which is just fabric? What does everyone think?

Plus all moto race types wear full leathers, i no to stop drag but surely its safer

And im aware it doesnt matter what type you wear as long as you stay shiny side up. I will still wear full leathers . . . im a power ranger and the job sort of requires it
 
For me I prefer leather. I doubt the armour would do much though.

Hospitals love leather because they keep you in a bag basically. Sounds horrid but that's one of the main reasons why I prefer it.

I have Kevlar jeans and fabrics but rarely use

The same goes for the Osprey Body armour the army use. Get blown up . . . keeps you all together

I saw some stats of maimed people on the front line a few years ago. People were saying its on the increase blah blah

It turns out that deaths in bomb situations or fighting had in fact dropped but that did mean they lost a limb etc. The increase of people being injured was in fact, wrong
 
I use them all to be fair, bit of everything but if im nipping to the shop i genuinly dont wear as much as i should, but impacts arnt going to be protected much by leathers or the kevlar jeans you are wearing as they are mostly for abrasion.
And the way i see textiles and kevlar jeans, its one use and throw away, where as leathers have the strength to be used again
 
Textile's a bit more versatile... love the layering! I can't imagine the summertime netting holding up much in an accident but I've seen different.....
 
It's so hot and humid in Hawaii. I wear textiles here. I wore only leather when I lived in Washington. It's all about comfort. If you're not comfortable, you can't concentrate on the task at hand. Quality is a big factor in your safety. I've seen a leather jacket come apart at the seams in a lower speed crash and I've seen a textile hold up sliding down the pavement at a pretty good clip.
 
I used to wear a black full leather jacket, and chaps, and now I have the Textile mesh jacket, with CE Armor, and I do like it more than my leathers. I am going to stick with my textile mesh jacket, and it also has a leather jacket as well that is the same color as my textile jacket.
 
Jackets and gloves are the only leather bits I have. I wear them for Fall riding. Rest of the time it's mesh textiles and armored kevlar jeans. I do find benefit in the armor in jeans and jackets etc. When I crashed I was fine except for my knees from wearing regular jeans. They were both bruised up pretty bad. I went down with the front of my body first then rolled onto my back. So yeah, some pads in the knees woulda been good then. :D
 
From my point of view i think about a full armor equipement. When i crashed i did not wear a jean armor and i forgot my boots. I got big injuries to my feet and my knees.

Leather is like a second skin which is the best protection.. during summer i wear a textil jacket with kevlar which is really confortable for the city. But i m not so confident for its protection if we fall down.
 
I use all of them. Generally in warmer weather and fir longer rides I will wear my Dainese two piece leathers, sidi boots and Astars summer gloves with longer cuff.

If I'm commuting and there is a chance of rain, or if the weather is colder I will wear textiles, but quality ones with armour, padding and removable liners to regulate heat, waterproof footwear and armoured/waterproof gloves usually with thermal qualities to keep my hands warm.

If I'm going on shorter runs such as to a mates or to the shops (rarely do that), I do have a mesh jacket - again with padding and armour where it counts, some bike ankle boots and some Astars short gloves.

In essence, the length of journey is irrelevant as an accident can occur outside your gate so the recommendation would always be to dress for the possibility of an off regardless.
 
I have armored jeans and textile pants, and honestly I like both of them equally. I use the textiles for offroad stuff predominantly, but depending on the weather, my jeans aren't waterproof by any means, so occasionally I'll wear the textiles on the road. I do prefer using the jeans for longer distances, just cause they are naturally more comfortable all round
 
I use the following

for short ride to the shop

boots, gloves, jeans, and textile jacket.

for long ride outs

boots, gloves, 1pc leathers or 2pc leathers depending on how hot it is
 
I dont really own any real leather piece since i just started riding less then a year ago and leathers are really expensive, it will be a while till i can afford them too lol, but till then i got textile jacket and kevlar jeans boots and gloves wich should protect most of my skin lol

also till then i'm kinda holding back on wheelies and all the other hooligan shit there is to learn, lol

I went with a textile jacket and pant just due to the heat. Seems to work well in winter and though I havent been riding in the summer yet I am hoping it is not to hot then, cant imagine full leather. I am ATGATT and think leather is probably superior for protection, but protection/comfort have to compromise and I feel ok with textile as an alternative.
 
I wear mesh/textiles jackets. Normal jeans. (Fleece lined when it's cold), my issued flightdeck boots and usually kevlar gloves, but in the cold/rainy weather where I am now, I kinda use winter gloves, that aren't really designed for riding.
 
I usually wear kevlar jeans with knee and hip protectors.

It's such a pain doing anything with bike leathers on and when it's your only form of transport you can't just jump in the car for those days that you don't want to walk around in leathers/textiles.
 
As a little 250 cruiser rider, full leathers look silly on me, so I just go with an armoured jacket and kevlar jeans with the knee/hip protectors. I bought a cheap pair of leather jeans which look great, though it only has crappy soft padding on the knees. I need to get something a little better soon.
