Final Cut Pro X On An I5 Imac ?

Anyone running Final cut on an i5 ? How is scrubbing? 2gb vram or 4 ?

I want a i7 but I'll only be shooting 1080p 60fps or 120fps. I don't mind spending the money . But don't want overkill ! Any feedback ?

I had an i5 MBP with 8gb ram, worked like a charm for 1080. I was using Premiere Pro though so final cut I assume should be even faster. Furthermore, you can make your computer preview every 2nd frame which will kinda look like 1080p 30fps in your preview. Or half the dimension. It works just fine for editing!

Thanks for the tips ! The new i5 imac is 3.3 with turbo boost up too 3.9ghz! Plus the 2gb vram. That's what I'm going to order. I can't bring myself to pay for the creative cloud. $50 a month is just too much for me. I'd rather just buy fcpx one time and be done !

I hear ya. I honestly think FCPX is far better tailored and optimized to use the mac's power. I just am bound to Adobe CC due to partners' demands.

I wouldn't mind getting Adobe CC if my videos could cover the cost. The only thing I really like about CC is After Effects. I'm not sure I can as easily make the same effects in Motion 5. But I guess I'll have to figure it out. Lol

Actually I think you should be able to. I'm curious though how it goes, keep me updated about Motion

I've got a late 2013 12" MBP. That's got 4GB RAM, retina screen but it's the base spec.

Scrubbing through isn't too bad but rendering and exporting can take time, and the longer and more complex the edit is (especially layers) can take time, but as far as editing up, it's fine.

Motion 5 however, plays back in its preview window and nearly half speed. I have to import to FCPX to test stuff I've made and tweak based on that. Not too much of an issue if you're making stuff that flips between the workflow nicely, but if you were tinkering a clip you might need to export as a clip to check, although that doesn't take too long to export a short one, and for testing you can export in 480p to speed things up too.

I have a G5 8 core running FCPX and have no issues. I have yet to tinker with After Effects, but have seen some really sweet videos from it. Once I get the ball rolling with vlogging, I plan on digging deeper in my curiosities.

How does Motion 5 compare to FCPX? I've seen plug-ins and such for it, but know nothing else about it beyond that.

Never used AE!!

However, if you have FCPX and Motion you have a workflow solution, same as Premier and AE have a flow.

Best way to find if it does XYZ is to look for a YT tutorial on it.

Quite what one has over another as a vlogger has got to be pretty minimal.

It's generally often the case that you can build an effect within FCPX or Premier if it's a one off, as both can do key framing and manipulate images and video. Vignettes etc you can add as a top layer from Motion or AE.
